1997 Sunrise Spa Heating and Wiring

I was given and I have installed a Sunrise Spa from 1997 at the cottage for summer use only. It was in a garage until now.
It has a Aqua Spa Pak model ASP-2000-6-yoDoes anyone have a manual?
It seems to work quite well for its age, but I have trouble getting it to heat up sometimes. The heat dial (it does not have
a LED temperature setting) seems to work but I get 98 F and other times 115 F.
Does it heat up better with or without the jets on?
What does the High limit reset do exactly? Sometimes when I press the High limit reset the heater light goes on but
usually it does not. Is the heater on only when the red light is on? The previous owner had a few extra wires hooked on the
main board that I am not sure what they did but want to restore. I will put a picture below and maybe reinstalling this may help. I am
guessing a thermostat and on/off.
I would also appreciate suggestions to fix heating temp and for where to get parts down the road.
Thank you.

That is about the most simplistic control system ever made. The number of missing safety protocols is impressive. I would strongly suggest you replace this with a modern control system. Balboa would be my recommendation. They run about $500 and will not burn your house down, which cannot be said of your current system.

I am new to the hot tub world....So a hot tub is not supposed to hit 120 F? I was going to put onions, carrots and noodles in it to make soup. 😂 I seem to have it under control now but I am guessing the simplest/most cost effective replacement would be worlds better that what I have. Can I just find one on of a used machine?

Any ideas what the added wires in the top right did? Temperature? On off? Picture with "Wires to ?" written in red on it. Previous owner added them but they were cut off when I got it, so I removed them since they were not in the original schematics.

Thank you. Previously, I had thought my Square D 40 amp spa pack and breaker would be enough protection. We have enjoyed using it but we have just a few weeks before we shut the Spa down in September. I will start looking for a control system worthy of a 25 + year old tub for next year. The search begins in Manitoba.

I appreciate all your help.

Someone one on Kijiji is selling all the insides of their hot tub. Is it universal? What questions do I ask? Are all 3 parts a good idea? Price?

This is the link: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-buy-sell-other/winnipeg/hot-tub-heater-and-motors-and-pumps/1666414641

Lots of pictures of the motor, heater and pump in the add.

Thoughts?

Thank you

Looks like one pump in the ad is 115V and one is 230V. Not an issue and changes can be made in the pack to accommodate that just be aware. The 115V also looks to be 1.5" plumbing and not 2". No topside no deal IMO.

Is it currently one pump or 2. Is the current pump 120V or 240V? Does the current pump run and can be used again?

In the current set up you have the heater is located high and behind the pack. A Balboa swap like in the ad you posted the heater is located low and at the bottom front so you need to be sure it will fit in the area you have and still align with the current plumbing... Unless you use a balboa set up with a remote heater. Then you can mount the heater in your current location and the pack can be mounted where convenient. Example: https://www.poolandhottubdepot.com/balboa-bp100-bundle-remote-4kw-heater-tp200-keypad/

If you can use the current pump you will need to change the pump cord to match and connect to the new pack.

More photos of the current pump(s) and plumbing might help spot potential problems.

It is an old set up Is there a GFCI in the electrical system? You NEED a GFCI

The guy does not have the top controler but said 300$ for all. Deal?

First I guess I need a top side. What can I buy for top side controler? I only have a jets on button and a light button. The other 2 outside nobs regulate the amount number of bubbles.

I'd buy a new pack. The topside is about $150 but I wouldn't risk worn relays, faulty sensors, and a bad heater element for $300. Maybe $75.

You might have to do some plumbing but I'm betting it will slide right in where the old one came out. You will have to cut out the fiberglass (or something) for the topside.

I have one pump that works well as shown in the picture with its specifications. The wiring is all new with a 40 amp GFCI that is installed 5 feet from the hot tub. I would install the top side controler into the frame I built instead of cutting the fiberglass.
