Keith140
I have a Sundance 780 chelsee 2011 and I have no power at the display and the breaker doesn't trip. I have a transformer that goes to the circuit board that says it's supposed to be 12v but it is showing 5 volts. I purchased a new transformer and the new one also said 5volts. Also attached to the transformer wires was the led light panel for the tub so I disconnected it and the transformer then showed 8 volts now the highest I have Read. I have power to everything in the tub and the fuse is fine on the main board. What is causing this?
ciderjack
When you test for power across the terminal block, are you getting 240v?
Keith140
Yes I have 2 110 wires reading 110 each
ciderjack
You need to test across them to see if you are getting 240v. You can get 110v on each side, but not be getting 220v.
Keith140
Okay I checked and i have 235 volts
Keith140
The transformer gets the 120 from the circuit board then the transformer feeds the converted ac back to the board but the only way I get even a reading of 11 volt ac from the transformer is if I unplug everything that uses 12v off the board other wise the transformer reads 5 volts
RDspaguy
2 hours ago, Keith140 said: transformer gets the 120 A Sundance does not have a neutral wire so there should not be 120v going to anything. The only way to get 120v is testing to ground, which you should not be doing. This is not a car, and ground is not part of the circuit. Please verify voltages. Your transformer has 2 plugs, one is 240v in and the other is various voltages out. Here is the testing procedure.
ciderjack
Verify that the fuse is good. Put a volt meter on each side of the 25amp fuse while the power is on. If you are getting 240v, bad fuse. 0v, fuse is good.
Keith140
I dont have a red coming in i have a white and a black going in and they read 0 when I check them on each other and 110 when checked off the ground. The red is capped off on my old and new transformer. Yellow to yellow reads zero unless i check to ground which it then reads 6 volts. Red reads 120 when checked to ground. Both blues are also capped off they arnt used. My hot tub randomly stopped working after a couple years for context.
Keith140
Also the fuse.. cider reads
CanadianSpaTech
@Keith140 Are you sure that is the right transformer. What part number is your circuit board?
RDspaguy
If you have 0 volts across the transformer power wires it is not getting power. The fact that you get 120v to ground simply means one of the two legs is hot. There is no current flow and no output power. Testing the load side transformer to ground is pointless. Check power into the spa, also not to ground. If you have 240v there you have a bad fuse or board. If not, bad leg on the breaker. 38 minutes ago, Keith140 said: Also the fuse.. cider reads 220 9 hours ago, ciderjack said: bad fuse. Replace any fuse that reads voltage across the fuse with power on.
Keith140
Heres a pic of my old one i got the same model number transformer. the stats are the same except the red wire is a white wire on the new one.
Keith140
Ill order a new fuse then and see what happens
RDspaguy
That transformer is wired for 115v operation. Use black/red wires if your spa is 240v only (no white wire at main power connection). Sending 230v through the 115v wiring could have blown a fuse or damaged the transformer and/or board.
Keith140
I changed the fuse and when I turn the breaker on it says 361 on the topside panel then it shows dashes or zeros and then goes dark.
CanadianSpaTech
Does it keep resetting over and over? did the fuse blow again?
Keith140
After that the fuse still reads zero ohms and isnt blown. The hottub doesnt show that message again unless I wait a couple hours and flip the breaker on again then it will show the message again but the top panel doesnt show any other messages on it and it disappears quick. I have 220 volt reading into circuit board but not 220 reading at pumps or heater ports just 110 off the board.

Keith140
Never sent 230 through my transformer your the one who kept saying my transformer was 230. My transformer gets power from the board by a push clip both transformers i have are 110. You told my transformer was 220 for mutiple messages and said i couldnt test to ground but now you realized it is 110. So where do I look next 110 transformer worked fine for 2 years and i plugged a new one in just to see if it would fix my display not coming on but it didn't. I also bought another circuit board and top panel they both show the 361 then dashes. What else is stopping the hot tub from running. Thanks

There should not be a white wire. You need a 6000-517 transformer.
RDspaguy
How many wires come into the spa from the breaker? If 3, you have the wrong wiring on your transformer. Period. It's printed on the transformer if you know what you're looking at. My second job in this industry was for a Sundance dealer, so I have been fixing Sundance spas since 1997. Argue with me if you want...
Keith140
Yeah 3 wires come in from the box on the house. The wires ran the tub for 2 years and the tub stopped working a month ago and I thought 12 volt was supposed to come out of the old transformer and I wasnt reading that so am I checking it wrong or what then. The transformer that came with the tub has a black and red coming in and 2 yellow wires out. I dont even know if my old transformer is bad at this point honestly. ciderjack
Your old transformer is probably fine. They very rarely fail. The fuse was blown and probably the issue all along.
kklis64
I’m having the same trouble on a Sundance Altamar 2000, 850 series, with the blank panel and inoperable. All 3 sensors are ok I believe , but the transformer failed on 1 of the 7 checks: 17.9 vac at blue 2 to yellow 2 with the post above procedure showing 15 vac maximum. is this likely my issue? thank you
