puffyhead
OMG I need help! The past 2 days we were without power due to the huricane. I told my son to turn on the pump and ad 4 tablets of chlorine to the pool. A 1/2 hour later i could smell chlorine in my house. I went outside on my deck and it was in my HOTTUB. I use prestine blue in my hot tub. My son added 4 tablets of chlorine I use in the pool and turned on the hot tub. 2 things, Pristine blue is nonchlorine. Is that going to cause a problem? Second, My hot tub is 350 gal so I KNOW it is WAY over chlorinated. Everything is closed in town due to the storm and I dont know what the heck to do. Should I drain it? Please help someone. thanks

ChaiSTi
Are these trichlor pucks? If so, i'd recommend draining asap.
n1oty
Are these trichlor pucks? If so, i'd recommend draining asap. Agreed. Drain immediately if these were pool trichlor pucks. Otherwise, you can do an awful lot of chemical damage. John
waterbear
to explain: Trichlor is extremely acidic and4 tabs in a the small volume of water in the tub will destroy the TA and drop the pH low enough to damage the heater and pump seals. You don't really need to drain IF you add pH increaser or borax to bring up the pH to normal range and remove the chlorine tabs. Pristine Blue is copper and is NOT an EPA approved primary sanitizer (It really is just an algaecide with some antibacterial activity but the kill times against bacteria are too slow to be useful and it is NOT a virucide!) so you are taking a lot of chances with your health using that as a primary sanitizer without additional chlorine! While you are adjusting the pH (and then TA if needed) you should, as Roger said, leave the spa uncovered and running to help dissipate the chlorine. Once you get the pH up (which is faster then trying to drain it!) then there is no harm done. However, if the copper content of the water is high you could end up with either blue or black stain or green water from the copper (but this can happen any time when using a copper based product like Pristine Blie. FWIW, copper is what causes green hair!!) Once you get the pH in normal range THEN drain the tub, junk the Prisine blue, and go with either chlorine or bromine. You will have a lot less problems, no green water (as you said you were having in your other thread) or hair from copper, and it will cost a lot less in the long run!
