  1. So i have a large 5 or 10 # box of HTH cal hypo I received when i bought the tub. I think the delivery guys may have had a side gig , i dont know, bought it and extra filter. I thought it was dichlor at first then looked. I have been using liquid vetrexx 12.5% which i have to say is easy and pretty much know what my FC will rise to with however much i use. Just wondering if i should tap open this box and use it until its gone or until my calcium levels start to spike and then back to bleach. Kind hate to toss it. Is there any advantage of using it other than its a lot stronger so it may only take a pinch at a time. Any other buildup to be noticing. From what i see it may mess with ph unlike the bleach. If i wouldnt have it or knew anyone with a pool that used it I wouldn't even consider it over using the liquid.
  2. I was using my taylor kit and taking samples to the pool store. They came back with a chart all filled out in ink. It was always off from what my Taylor kit read. Had me second guessing my readings as if i was not doing it right. I started a thread a while back on the 2006 kit.Took a sample from my daughters tub and mine( i had pretty fresh water) they came back and said her's was better and must have just had a water change becuase tds was lower. Not a chance unless they mixed up the samples. I know her cya was over 100 as she shocked once a week with enhanced shock that was 50% dichlor. I started asking them if they check CYA and said no they just do TDS. Found out they just use strips, thats why they were so far off my taylor readings. Not knocking them but have not wasted my time using their "lab" anymore. Their ph was almost always off and if i used what they recommended to add , would have put my Taylor readings off the chart.
  3. They refunded me last week , so they seem on the up and up. They just were not getting it in there shipments, they say. When i ordered back in november everyone seemed to show out of stock. I haven't put the mps in lately since my ph has been holding rock steady for weeks at 7.5-7.6. Everytime I would hit it with MPS it would knock the ph down. Aggetating it didnt seem to get it to rise much and I have to add a bit of up. Honesty Im afraid to change the water and start over it seems to hold the balance so good, JMO.
  4. (including "mineral" systems such as Nature 2 and Frog, which do require the use of some chlorine or bromine). Hopefully i dont get to far off topic It was my understanding the N2 stick which I use required MPS along with the chlorine. I looked on the zodiac site and read you could use it with just chlorine but it would not control algea without MPS . i called them a few months ago I had mentioned in another post and they could not really answer any questions becuase they just did not know. Not a good feeling that the people that make it don't know about it. I backed off my use of MPS becuase it knocked the socks off my ph when i used it. Just using Vertexx liquid pool shock, my ph stays steady between .2 points on my 2006 kit. I noticed back when I started my hot tub and was using MPS more frequently I had more of a chalking uncomfortable feeling against my skin. I could however, just be nuts. I'm still using the stick more as a backup.
  5. It worked ok but turned into a S**t show. Between my daughter and I we are well stocked up as i ordered a extra 4 oz jar and another 4 packets and two bottles of cleaner. She used a packet and part of another since it read up to 425 gallons. It foamed up over the top of the tub. Wound up running her dog to the vet who started vomiting about two hours afterwords. Thought she may have gotten into the foam or the drainage that wound up on the ground as it had a blueish green tint to it. Still not understanding why the video found posted on the website they added defoamer BEFORE they drained and wiped out the tub. That was my question, was it just for the video?
  6. Anyone have issues getting this? I ordered it back in November with other refills from a company and the refills came but this has been on backorder. I notice its not availble on amazon either so is it Taylor or did i get hosed? I'm not too sure i will even need it becuase I may nix the MPS anyway, although i already paid for it. I use the nature 2 as a fallback safety but they say it can be used without MPS.
  7. I did. I 've been trying to study on everything else , this just made me go HMMM?
  8. I suppose I cut my toe on a foot well jet or return cover. I didn't notice this until i went to shower off. I traced my footsteps back and found blood it in my slipons i put back on after getting out of the hot tub. I seen it on my stairs also, so i evidently did it in the tub. It was dark out so i didn't notice it. My question is , what do you do? I threw some extra liquid chlorine in. Hopefully don't have to call hazmat! Wondering what the protocal is ? I was planning on dumping water soon with ahhsome purge, just had a few questions i posted a few days ago in the ahhsome thread on if i needed defoamer or not.
  9. Hopefully he didnt fall in! I just want to know so i can have it all on hand. io never heard about the defoamer until I seen the video linked on their site. I feel that ,maybe, but am not sure, if it was used just for filming purposes to show the scum line or not. I attached a link to the video on their site below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY_tBzd4tTg
  10. Do you need to use a defoamer after this foams before you drain? On the ahhsome website it has a video of them using a defoamer. Not sure if its just for the video or not , but am seeing it in other videos being used. I also have a 480 gallon tub, actually doing two since I will help my daughter do hers also. Her's is 470 gallons although it looks bigger than mine. I bought a water meter for the fill just to know for sure. I bought the single use packets of ahhsome. Didnt think about as i thought 4 cleanings. I now see it says up to 425 gallons. Will one packet be enough or not or should I buy a extra jar for another half teaspoon.I would rather keep the packets sealed as the reason i dont want to use 1 and a quarter of another and have it laying around open. Do I need the spray cleaner also or will the film wipe off? Anyone used a light electric power washer to rinse the tub down afterwords? I wouldnt think it would hurt any unless one used too sharp of a nozzle? On edit- I bought the 4 pack of single use packets. I reread my post and thought I needed top clarify.
  11. JMO,i enjoy learning, but I would be pissed if I found out I was paying good money for a rental and then found out my family was soaking in someone's Petri dish thinking there is a commercially available backed system that was not hacked sanitizing it. May be different if it was one's own personal spa. I think liability may have been involved in that decision.
  12. I think they were bad foam. IDK, read another complaint on amazon abouit the same thing happening i put in two new white scum balls in and they are still brite white and clean as a whistle. i originaly had the balls but they sunk after a month a half.Ordered up the little foam turtles. My daughter had them in hers a few years ago but they never turned color. They always stained clean thats why I seen these foam turtles turn brown i was litte worried i had a reaction going on. Ph seems to be holding stable now also around 7.5.was just in tub for a hour and had 2 ppm FC left. Good for me heh?
  13. Just to update, the scumbusters are stained brown not dirty. I washed them out and even tried dawn soap. Almost like they were originally brown and were dyed white.
  14. just checked my tub and when i opened it up the new white scumbuster foam floaters i put in last week turned brown. The only thing out of the ordinary is my ph dropped down between 7.2 and 7.0 I checked ta and found at 60. FC chlorine was at 4.5. I aerated and I put a little up (1.5 tbsp for 470 gallons) in it since everything was steady when it ran around 80 ta. Brought the ph up around 7.5 and around 70 TA. Not sure why those white foam turtles turned color. Water looks crystal clear, no rings or lines around the tub level. No oil slicks on top the water. The only thing i did differant is I had shut down the air jets. We had some 0 deg weather and I had closed them, I had them cracked before. I wonder if i didnt areate enough and caused this. I did put some mps in it the other day which maybedidnt help and thats what cause the ph drop also. Its weird, tub has been holding great and water has no smell. No other staining and cover looks clean. Just a aw shoot moment when i saw those but I didnt say shoot. Are you better to leave the air jets them slightly open? I have a ozone with a uv light and the nature 2 stick also. I have to boost free chlorine about every 4 days at about 2 oz. I added the mps to try and help the chlorine out, i only have stips to check the mps and it shows possibly high to ok .I try to take FC to 5 and let it drop down to .5 even with the nature2 stick. I was kinda suprised at its been about 4 days and FC was still at 4.5fc. if it wouldn't be for the damn foam turtles turning brown I wouldnt think much about it and just crack those jets some to try and keep ph up. fc -4.5 cc-.2 ph-7-7.2 now at 7.5 ta 60- now at 70 ch - 190 cya- around 50. trying to wait another month do to weather to hit it with awesome and refill. The tub has mostly been closed up except for chem checks and additions. I use as 2006 kit but have the mps kit for the 2006 on backorder.
  15. Just a ramble and well since i had time, I took my water and another tubs water for testing. I pretty much knew what mine read as i test every few days with my 2006, log it and actually the day before and right after coming back from these tests. Not even close. Both tubs read the same ph 6.8, alk 40 and 0 FC from their test. I hit the other tub with 4 oz of liquid 12.5% the night before. My tub was at 1.5 FC, 80 alky and 7.6 ph with my 2006 other tub was at 2 FC , 50 Alky and 7.4 ph. with my 2006. I raised the ta and ph a few weeks ago since it was at 40 and 7.0 and brought it to 50 and 7.4. They don't test for CYA but do a TDS and I don't believe it either. On the other tub, they said someone must have just changed the water because it was 400 and mine was 800. Nope. I asked what they use exactly and they said test strips and their computer. Kinda weird as it took them a while and they came back and apologized for the time it took because they had computer issues. On a test strip, I have my ph does look around 7.0 -6.8 area but the 2006 kit read 7.6-7.7 and takes 1 drop of acid to match the it to 7.4. I told them I use the 2006 and wanted to double check readings. They suggested I have bad or old reagents. I was surprised they both came out basically the same on both store tests and that's what prompted me to actually asked how they came up the results. Its a free test, i get it to a point, but i would rather give up a couple bucks for a test that's accurate. I'm not trying to knock them, they are supposed to be the experts and do more testing than i do,but I'm a little disappointed as if i would add what they wanted me to I believe I would have thrown off the water balance.
