Your outside so moisture wont be an issue.

Cool, thanks! I read somewhere that it had to be 3 feet from the foundation. Deciding whether to build it into the paver patio, or do a trex cat walk around it adjoining the patio!

Yup -- more or less mirroring the above, I just measured a spa -- mine. It is currently 29 inches from my garage and I never gave moisture a thought. Accordingly I can place a spa 29 inches from my garage and not worry about it. :P

I had the same concern. I have my tub about 24 inches from the house, in front of a window. We don't even get moisture or fog build up. No issues at all. My advice, place your tub where it is convenient to get to.

My neighbour has had problems with basement leaking because of his hot tub being right up to the back wall of his house....he thinks it's due to the hot tub anyway...

Also, you have to leave 18" or so for maintenance access...don't you? That's what I understood anyway....

Depending on where the service panel is on the hot tub, I would leave room to access it, or any side for that matter because you may have issues down the road i.e. leaks where you would have to be able to take the skirting off and inspect.

Also, depending on how you are installing, if you are having it done professionally, you may have local codes that need to be obeyed regarding clearances to the house.

I would also make consessions for a cover lifter. There however may be a municipal ordinance regarding how close to a glass structure (window) a hot tub (or pool for that matter) can be. Best to check with your town/city

How close to your residence can you safely place a spa without worrying about moisture damage?

I don't know where you live, but I will tell you the mistake I made around 12 years ago, and paid for it when I recently replaced the spa.

We put ours too close to the house. We had two problems -- noise from the pumps in winter (it was right below our bedroom window) and also one side of the outer walls of the spa was weathered more because of the dripping off the roof of the house. If it were any closer, we'd have to worry about icicle damage as well.

We placed the new spa around 9 feet (~ 3 meters or so) away from the house, but I had to lay in a new level ground for it AND have the electric rewired. So - my advice is , put it a few feet / meters away from the house.

When spas are close to the house (or on a deck) noise can especially be an issue since the main pump is on for filtering about 6 hrs/day though if you get a spa that uses a circ pump for filtering that issue goes away.
