Are We Being Ripped Off?

UK buyer

Recommended Posts

I have made another posting here asking recomendations on manufacturers between, Sundance, Hotspring, Gulf Coast and Masterspas, as they all have dealerships near our home town, here in the United Kingdom and would welcome expert opinions..

We need to look at value very carefully, as well as after sales care and spares etc, as here in the Uk we get ripped off on prices big time.

As a guide, have a look at these:

Hotspring Grande 2007 RRP $ 26500, best sale price from dealer = $ 18595

Sundance Optima RRP $24600 best sale price ( a used ex demo model in store..) = $16000

Gulf Coast LX11000 RRP RRP $24600. best sale price new = $ 15,000

As you can see, we get a lot less for our bucks here, and as such need to be 100% certain what we are buying, so any serious pro advice would be welcomed.

VAT how is that working for you?

SOCIALIZED MEDICINE?

Your paying for that on top of the base price of the tub.

If you want we can send you Hillary Clinton well no then you have to pay even more.

If she gets elected here in the USA we will be paying the same price you are for a tub.

Screwed, yes I would say $26K for a tub is a little excessive.

Maybe you can get a Doctors note and have the Government provide it for you.

We did a little thing in this country a few hundred years ago, maybe you should head down to the water front with a few friends and toss some tea in the harbor to get things started.

On a serious note you ned to make sure the dealer and mgf. will be providing good support of the tub you purchase. Hang out in the showroom and talk to some of the people who come in to buy spa chemicals. Ask them what model they purchased and if they a happy with it. Most Spa owners are happy to talk good or bad about thier Spa.

Good Luck what ever tub you buy you are sure to enjoy the warm water all year. I stayed 3 weeks in the UK and man you have some serious weather that makes your arthritis remind you why you shelled out $26,000 for a tub.

What's RRP? Are those USD prices?

I would guess it costs a fair bit of $ to ship a spa over the pond. The currency difference should make the tubs themselves cheaper for you... I suppose there are no domestic hot tub manufacturers in the UK?

It's kind of hard to compare apples to apples with the different currencies - what are the prices in pounds?

You may wish to re-negotiate with the dealer considering the weakening US dollar (compared to the pound/euro). A pound buys approx. 10% more US dollars since the beginning of the year so if the dealer is trying to sell units on their floor they are more expensive that if you purchased one yet to be delivered/paid for. Maybe a bargaining chip or point of negotiation for you?

Believe it or not, shipping is not as much as you would think. It's not horrible. I would be interested to see what currency those prices are in and whether the VAT is in there (if it's not, then WOW). Like GG72 mentioned, the USD is pretty weak right now. If buying direct from a US dealer, someone paying with euros would be buying pretty cheap considering a euro is buying around 1.44 USD right now. Right now, the pound is buying about 2.08 USD.

Why are you looking at Gulf Coast? THey are going under...Stay away...

Just because there are "BIG NAMED" dealer spas that you are looking at...Dont be fooled...Ask questions...

Proprioritory parts? Full foam insulation? Stay away from companies that deal with either of these scenarios. It will be trouble for you in the long run. The tubis eventually going to break, no matter what brand or type of tub it is. Stay away from hotsprings, you can only get the parts to repair the tub from the dealers and they will bend you over, and when the tub spring a leak you are going to pay 50-100 an hour to get some guy out to your house to chip foam away for hours and hours before the leak will be found...food for thought

I would say right off the top to stick with Hot Springs or Sundance, If you have a Marquis dealer around you may also want to check them out. Since you know the currencies values, I would say say that on the average to perhaps even the high side in US dollars both the Sundance and Hot Springs are "about" $10,000 US Dollars. If you add say even 25% for the additional shipping and equipment changes that are made, that should give you an idea of what you should be close to.

The prices I listed ere all in US Dollars for ease of comparisons, and I converted from UK Pounds at 2.05 to the pound.

All prices INCLUDED VAT, and were for a Spa to be delivered and installed to existing water / electrical connections and on a base we provide. They include steps, cover and chemical pack.

RRP = Recomended Retail price ( similar to MRP = Manufacturers Recomended Price) but only a fool would pay either of those rates.

Interested to see that you hear GULFCOAST Spas are going under ? I would be interested to know anymore info on this as they are my nearest dealer and seemed ok guys.

one last questions folks, I saw a web site called www.poolandsparatings.com which gave a chart of about 30 manufacturers and a table of opinions on qualiy etc. Is this a genuine independant site or sponsored by a selection of suppliers?

Thanks .

Most likely it's a site put up by a dealer, possibly of Infinity Spas, trying to "show" potential customers that the brand he sells is equal in quality to a REAL quality spa.

Notice how Infinity rates as high as Hot Springs??? Not in your wildest dreams

OH! And doing quite a bit of business in the UK, with a number of distributors, prices there are generally about double what they are here. Or, they cost 1 pound there for every 1 dollar here.

THANKS FOR THE LAUGH..BUT

Hillary is all yours thanks ! We just got over 10 years of Cherie Blair running our place via her lapdog husband.

Next thing you will want us to take Bush aswell...

No point in applying for the Spa on our Health Service either, as I hold full British Passport and the Government here only gives benefits to refugees and scroungers. The rest of us just pay the taxes to support the loony left socialists who sit in parliament.

Take your point on the Boston Tea episode, but doubt we have enough people left here with the balls to start a revolution as the majority of such people have upped sticks and left for Australia, New Zealand etc, where they look after its citizens first and reward those who work & contribute..

( ****, I may be the only one left soon, and my spa could soon cost $50,000 with taxes and must be made available to all unemplyed within a 5 mile radius..)

Help, how do I get a green card ???

how much is the VAT? I knew Europe was more expensive for hot tubs, but if the going rate is double and it's not all VAT, what are we doing selling here? I hear Holland is nice. ;)

VAT Rate here is 17.5%.

Mark 2550 : Hey , hows about we trade places, you can arrive here as a poor homeless refugee and victim of the Iraq War, and I could could seek political asylum in USA because of my fears in UK for having spoken my mind and and trying to unstable the loony left running who run the show here !

Our respective governemnts will then ensure we get everything free for ever and let us live happily after. And best news of all is I get to buy a Spa at the right price not double lol

Check out Bullfrog Spas At Villeroy & Boch. B) You'll see a different way of making a spa.
