HotSpring Flair W/Saltwater system VS Jacuzzi J355

Hi all, prospective first time hot tub purchaser here.

Currently between a Jacuzzi J355 and a HotSpring Flair w/saltwater system

We both have sensitive skin so the saltwater seemed appealing, also less chemistry and work involved, but the jets on the J355 seem better and also it has the Jacuzzi name.

We also looked at the HotSpring Jetsetter XL being 95% of the hot tub use will just be me and my significant other. Not sure if anyone has an opinion on that model or on if downsizing the hotub just for personal use and not entertaining is a better option as well.

Any help from anyone with their experiences with either of these models would be great.

We live in SW FL and would be installing the tub in our caged lanai.

Thanks!

Matt

Be aware that a saltwater system is usually a chlorine system. The chlorine is generated by electrolysis of the salt. If sodium bromide is used instead of sodium chloride then it becomes a bromine system. Chlorine is not a sensitizer, bromine can be. However, the usual culprit for those with 'sensitive skin' is MPS or non chlorine shock so that should be avoided.

As far as less work, you won't have to worry about daily dosing of sanitizer or weekly shocking but the chemistry is the same. The water still needs to be tested and balanced and pH control is a bit more of an issue. You still have to maintain your calcium hardness, total alkalinity, and cyanuric acid if you are using chlorine. Cyanuric acid is a chlorine stabilizer. It is not used with bromine.

Have you sat in either hot tub?  While I have no experience specifically with the Jacuzzi, I was a Hot Spring dealer for 5+ years.  The Flair has a deep lounge so if either of you are shorter than probably 5'7", I question how well you would fit.

Salt water will feel softer on your skin.  Whether the salt system is any easier to maintain is debatable.  Your source water will play a huge role in how easy or complicated the salt system will be.

Jetsetter LX is a nice 2-3 person hot tub.  Personal opinion, I would probably go bigger, but that is just me.  I feel claustrophobic in small hot tubs when soaking with someone else, my wife included.

End of the day, both are good brands.  Hot Spring is the largest selling brand in the world.  Jacuzzi is #2 I believe.  If those are your two final choices, buy the hot tub that suits your needs better.  Factor in the dealer as they are the ones taking care of you after the sale.
