USAMariner
I am in the process of opening up the pool and getting everything balance right. However, the handle to the main drain on my inground pool is broken and I am in the process of trying to find a replacement. Can anyone suggest a reputable place to buy a replacement Jandy handle for a min drain? Anyway, after having my water tested by the local pool company I need to dump 33 pounds of Alkalinity Up and then 27 pounds of Hardness Plus into the pool to bring the levels up (in between I have been advised to drop in 5 pounds of shock too). I was told to wait 24 hours between adding the Alkalinity Up and Hardness Plus. Will not having the main drain have any effect on the chemicals, or will they still do the job intended? Since first opening the pool a couple of weeks ago when all I did was add chlorine tabs to the basket and dump in some shock, not to mention backwashing and some vacuuming I have noticed that the water went from a dark green to a light green color. So I'm assuming that not having the main drain functional right now is not having an effect.
Seahunt
I assume you have skimmers? I recommend using your brush to stir any chemicals that may collect on the bottom until you get the drain fixed.
waterbear
If the skimmers is operating the pool will function without the main drain until you can get the jandy valve replaced. Many pools today are being built without main drains.
leafwrangler
If just your "handle" is broken on your Main Drain valve, I assume your skimmer valves are exactly the same Jandy model? Just take off one of the valve handles from your skimmer valves and use it on your Main Drain valve to open it up
