  1. I am in the process of opening up the pool and getting everything balance right. However, the handle to the main drain on my inground pool is broken and I am in the process of trying to find a replacement. Can anyone suggest a reputable place to buy a replacement Jandy handle for a min drain? Anyway, after having my water tested by the local pool company I need to dump 33 pounds of Alkalinity Up and then 27 pounds of Hardness Plus into the pool to bring the levels up (in between I have been advised to drop in 5 pounds of shock too). I was told to wait 24 hours between adding the Alkalinity Up and Hardness Plus. Will not having the main drain have any effect on the chemicals, or will they still do the job intended? Since first opening the pool a couple of weeks ago when all I did was add chlorine tabs to the basket and dump in some shock, not to mention backwashing and some vacuuming I have noticed that the water went from a dark green to a light green color. So I'm assuming that not having the main drain functional right now is not having an effect.
  2. I need some advice and help here, please. A couple of days ago while preparing to open the pool I started the vacuuming process. I had it set on vacuum to 'waste' and then backwashed a couple of times. Here's where I encountered my frustrating problem. When I set the handle back on filter and filled the basket with water so that I could prime and get the jets started, the water level in the basket dropped. As I tried to prime the pump to get the jets going nothing happened. Usually you'll see the water start to circulate and the jets start to kick into gear. I repeated this step several time, each time having no luck. However,I did check the 'O' ring and noticed that it isn't exactly in mint condition - there is some wear and it does look a little deformed in places. Is it possible that when I seal the basket it isn't airtight and that's what causes the water to drop as soon as I turn on the pump. We did just have the impeller replaced last year so I wouldn't think that causes the problem. One other thing...we also have a handle connected to the basket that is for the main drain along with the one for the skimmer line. Should both of those be open when the jets are running and also when vacuuming? I believe that the main drain was off while doing this so hope that hasn't caused the problem. Sorry for the not so technical terms, but I tried to explain a best I can - very frustrate here
  3. Just now I noticed that the jets in the pool aren't working. They were this morning when I put in new chlorine tablets into the skimmer basket. The water isn't circulating in the pool. When I checked the pump basket where I can see the water circulating, it wasn't. Anyway, I turned the handles to "trap" the water and turned off the pump at the main. When I filled the water back up so I could restart the pump, the water did not circulate and gradually disappeared. Normally when I do this the water starts to pass thru the pipes and the jets start until I get everything going properly. Sorry for the poor description, but right now I'm really trying to figure it out.
  4. I'm having some issues with my pool this season. I have cleaned the pool of all debris and have the water level right. I have vacuumed numerous times and and backwashed plenty of times too, yet my water still appears to be green. When I first got the water level under control and also cleared the pool of leaves etc, the water managed to turn a shade of blue, although not perfect. Initially I added ph plus because the level was a little on the slow side. Since then I have added algaeside and shock (last dose was a week ago), but all week the pool water has gotten progressively worse until it's current state of green. Is their such thing as putting too much shock in the pool when it first gets opened to help control everything? My pool holds approximately 22,000 gallons. I have Alkalinity Up and Dry Acid. Should either os these chemicals be added to help turn the color of the water? I guess I'm just frustrated and until I can get the water tested at the pool store I want to know if there is anything I can do in the mean time.
  5. I'm sure there are plenty of questions on this, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. We recently opened the pool and am still the progress of vacuuming etc and getting all the leaves out that ended up there thanks to our cover been shot. We took our water to the store and the ph level came back fine, but it showed no chlorine despite the fact we do have 3" tabs in the filter and I have put some shock in the pool. Maybe I'm not putting enough in? Anyway, there is still a fair amount of leaves in the pool but I'm working my way there. Will this affect the levels of chlorine in the pool? Does the mass soak up some of the chemicals? Our pool holds approximately 22,000 gallons. What is the recommended amount of shock I should add?
