algibomi
I am in the process of purchasing a fiberglass pool and I can't decide whether or not to have the pool colored blue or just go with white. I am worried that the white is going to look to much like a bath tub.Any and all replies will be appreciated. thanks
ed3553
With a white pool you will still get that aqua color. However with the blue pool it will look like a deep blue. Also keep in mind a colored pool will not show dirt or staining like a white pool. I have sold and serviced both white and blue. If it was me I would do the blue hands down they just look so much better in my opinion. algibomi
ed3553, Thanks for the advice. I agree with your thoughts, though my wife and the pool company are kinda pushing for the white. Anyone else out there have any opinions as to white vs. blue? michiganpoolsandspas
ed3553, Thanks for the advice. I agree with your thoughts, though my wife and the pool company are kinda pushing for the white. Anyone else out there have any opinions as to white vs. blue? It will look like a big bath tub if you do not have the edge of the concrete cantilevered. The white pool will definitely be less expensive but it will also look less expensive. The best thing to do is during a sunny day go outside and stare at a white piece of paper, that will give you a feel for a white pool. Depending on the color blue you are looking at will also depend on the color of your water. Another thing to remember, just like the color of a car, the darker the hotter. A dark shell will draw free heat from the sun just as a black car does. Hope this helps and if you would like to see the different water colors in relationship to the different color shells please feel free to visit my website, www.michiganpoolsandspas.com
chem geek
The answer really depends on the depth of your pool, but assuming a typical pool depth, the water will have a blue tint to it due to sunlight having its reddish light absorbed by the water more readily than bluish light. See my 16,000 gallon pool here at day and here at night. It's white plaster yet you can see the bluish tint (I'd call it closer to aqua) during the day and can see how that varies with depth (look at the ramp). The pool is 3 feet deep in the shallow end and 6 feet deep in the deep end. The night picture has a yellow-blue-green tint to it due to the pool lights which are incandescent so give that sort of hue in water. algibomi
Go white.....or go blue.......just go fiberglass!! poolandspadude, thanks for the reply. could not agree more! grew up with an inground, liner pool, never had any real problems, but installation and maintence of a fiberglass unit makes them a win, win. midwestpoolsusa.com
They will both look nice if done correctly. The pool shell itself is nothing more than the building block of the project. What you choose to do with the decking, landscaping and water features will make a lot of impact on the overall appearance. Both white and colored pools win design awards every year. Good luck. SunshinePoolsAZ
definitely blue... any shade of blue will always look better than white! less than 1% of the pools we have installed are white... and the customer has always come back and added tile later to make it look a little more attractive! I think a white fibreglass pool and look really nice if complimented by light sandstone landscaping and perhaps a light coloured timber decking. If done right I think the white pool can look much more classy than the blue. The landscaping can be done yourself and I've just written an article which shows you how to do it yourself at low cost. I would recommend using stone rubble of a pale sandstone colour mixed with the mortar. Article to make fake rock I hope this helps to make up your mind. Stan. Viking Pools LLC
Take a look at this to see how the color of your pool affects the color of your water. I think it depends on the overall look that you are trying to achieve. A white pool gives the water a light blue look but can be a little bright in the sunlight, while the light blue gel coat tends to mute the brightness while still making the water look light blue. Different companies offer different finishes that can also change the color of the water. Viking offers a Kaleido-Center where you can custom design the color of your Crystite finish - there are millions of color possibilities. It all boils down to preference.
