It will continue to run if the heater is disconnected. The heater measures about 14 ohms. If this is about right, could it be anything other than the motor? It may still have 14 ohms for continuity, but current is leaking out to ground, which causes the GFCI to trip. With the power off, test between one terminal on the heater and one to ground. Peteyboy Posted August 21, 2009 Report Share Posted August 21, 2009 Is what you are calling the breaker the GFI on the control box which has test & reset buttons? Or is it the little breaker on the control box that says 15 on it or is a little flag that sticks out of it and you have to push it in? If it's the GFI tripping and it only does it on low speed then I agree it's the heater. If it's the other thingy, they had problems with nuisance tripping on the old black ones and it would need to be replaced with the new green one. They call it a mini-breaker part number 75076. Also if it's not the GFI there could possibly be a burnt wire in the control box. If the spa is a 1993 or 1994 you have to drain it to remove the control box. My brother-in-law taped the heater wire that was chewed by a pack rat. It checks OK with the ohm meter, but it may fail with line voltage. I'll try fixing that first.
