Thanks to all. I may have to replace the heater. The breaker is the new green one. My brother-in-law taped the heater wire that was chewed by a pack rat. It checks OK with the ohm meter, but it may fail with line voltage. I'll try fixing that first. Carl

The spa is a Hotspot model Z. I replaced the pump/motor, breaker pops after 30-60 seconds, breaker was replaced. It will continue to run if the heater is disconnected. The heater measures about 14 ohms. If this is about right, could it be anything other than the motor? Carl

Thanks for the help (JerimiahR also) Replacing the breaker should be fairly inexpensive. I'll try that next

I have just installed a new motor & pump. After 15-45 seconds the breaker pops ( not the GFCI, the little black one ). The flow switch is closing. The new motor has a slightly higher current rating. Could the breaker be on the edge, or is there a more serious problem?
