ephron
I recently purchased a house that had a swimming pool in very poor condition. I have cleaned the pool out, and the water is nice and clear and has been for the past 4 months. Recently i have started having issues with my pool pump though. It will start to pump normally and then it will stall (the pump still sounds as if it is running normally but there will be a brief moment where the pump water glass loses water and fills up with air, then it will start pumping normally again). It does this every 60 seconds or so. I have cleaned out the skimmer basket and hair basket on the pump, and i have cleaned the filter out (cartridge) and even tried running the pump without the cartridge in the filter and it still does the same thing. Any suggestions? I am lost

Any suggestions? I am lost Pool level is high enough, half why up the skimmer? It sounds like you have a air leak. Turn the pump off and see if the water in the basket in the pump drops or if you can here a hissing noise. Pump Seals can also cause this problem. You have to take pump apart to change them. If it has a valve in front of the pump try turning it to different positions and see if it still does it. One last thing check to oring on the pump strainer lid. Pathfinder
As mentioned it sounds like your water level is low
Pool Clown
Also, make sure the skimmer weir (door) moves freely back and forth and there is no debris in between the weir and the sides of the skimmer throat.
ephron
The water level is fine, and the skimmer is clean and it doesn't have a door. When the pump is off the water in the pump basket stays full. When i open the pump basket you can hear the pressure release and all the water drain out, so i dont see how there could be leak there that is bad enough to cause it to do this. Thanks for the suggestions though You guys think of anything else i can try?
ephron
Oh, I forgot to mention i have already tried moving the valves with no luck and i checked the oring on the pump strainer lid and it looks fine.

Any suggestions? I am lost Does your pump have a little valve somewhere near the top that unscrews? This is how you release air from the pump. It would be worth a try getting air out and see if it helps. Good luck.
ephron
I don't have a valve on the top, but there was a drain valve on the side. I opened it up and drained all the water out, then filled it back up out of the water hose, let water fill up the lines too till it was full. Turned the pump on and it seems to be working fine now. Not sure why that fixed it, or how long it will last lol. Thanks for the help, i will keep you posted if it happens again.
