  1. It has a stuck relay either on the PC board. If does not use a pc board it could be a stuck air switch.
  2. both pumps will work. Hayward's are new since they started making pressure cleaners. The standard booster pumps from Hayward seems to be a little quieter than Polaris's. I know Polaris also makes a quiet booster pump
  3. Are you getting the Viton orings blue color, for the Feeder or the old standard black ones. If the lid is not black in color anymore replace the lid. I prefer the frog system feeders or Rainbow feeder from Pentair. Like you said or install a generator system.
  4. Take a look at the endless pool. I sold a few Sunbelt Swim Spas. It is a nice unit with standard spa pumps for the spa end and one huge pump for swimming. The swim ports are adjustable to direct flow. It had a standard 5.0 kw spa heater with plastic wood panels. The customer really likes it because it on the deep side for swimming exercising. He built a room around his. Three years ago it was $22,750. plus cost of a concrete pad and electric. Another customer had a D1 swim spa and hated it. It was huge built into the floor of the room with standard heater and 3 pumps. I think it was the dealer she was unhappy with more than the spa, but she lumped them together. I have seen other at show but not filled. There not a big seller here so that is all I know. If you stay with a major manufature you should be OK. Endless Pools are nice also as stated above, but I think the equipment is seperate from the pool.
  5. What kind of info. Maax, Master, Dimension One, Sunbelt all make swim spas
  6. MSRP from Watkins is $11,950 for Aria and $7195.00 for Jetsetter both prices without ACE System. Only includes tub GFCI panel, Cover Look at other makes smaller tubs, They all seem to make them Sundance, Marquis Artic, etc
  7. That is a good price and yes with control panel on top it is a new Hotspring model. What does his 1 year warranty cover? Can you get him to fill and run it for you? for a good cleaning I like Natural Chemisrty's Spa Purge. You do need warm water to use but it is a natural product and in my opinion works really well. Even if there is something wrong with the spa and needs service you are still way under cost of a new one. Only you can make a decsion to buy or not. I say go for it Get the serial #. Have father-in-law's dealer call the factory and see if spa has ever been registered or had warranty service. You may be able to get warranty. All in all, great deal. I say go for it. To kill the germs, you will want to superchlorinate. Spa Purge does not address germs. To kill the germs, you will want to superchlorinate. Spa Purge does not address germs. Your right I was thinking of a spa being used with a sanitizer and being prepped for water change.
  8. For the electric run if it going to 50 feet you may or may not have a problem with undervoltage. That is with the run being far away and using a 15 amp device on it could make the hot tub act if there were something wrong. caused by what is called voltage drop. That is something a electrcian could check out for you. If you have a newer house I would think should be ok. DO NOT USE A EXSTENSION CORD

  10. Don't go crazy and add all the salt at one time. add 3/4 of and let it circulate for at least 24 hours. Look at the reading in the box and get your self a good salt water tester then add more if needed. It is always easier to add more then if get salt level to high
  11. I don't know the answer, But would like to know why you want to develope a new one
  12. yes the bulbs loose there gusto about a year or so. Better ones are corona discharge but they will need service also in about 2 years give or take. They last forever. I am still on the fence wether they do any good or not. The output is low on some, Some companies say you should smell the ozone, some say you do. The life 03. is so short in warm water. I look at them as a option. IMO
  13. That's a tuff one. My knowledge of Aqua Rite systems is there seems to be extra capacity built in to the units. Ones I installed or have checked up on I have yet to see one with dial above 50%. I don't have a definite answer and no notes from the training class about this, they really don't won't to tell people if the 40k unit is rated up that. If you have enough room install the one use it and see how it does and then add another if needed.
  14. I live in eastern PA and a customer bought a Heat Siphon Brand direct from Manufacture and loves it. She sets at 83 and leaves it there all summer. I will tell they will not work at all or well on cool days around 65 degrees. They need the heat of ambient temp to transfer to water. My Jandy/Zodiac reps says he wouldn,t sell them in maryland north. We have others who have them on small pools and they don't complain about them. It if fast heating of pool water look into a Raypack RP2100 series heater. Heat pumps are slow heaters. http://www.heatsiphon.com/ http://www.raypak.com/uploads/6000.20C.pdf http://www.raypak.com/poolframe.htm
  15. My mom's neighbor did just that Put supports across the pool and built a large deck. It was a liner pool and I wouldn't want to know is under that deck ( skunk water etc) My dad on the other hand had is neighbor fill his pool in with dirt. If you really are dead set against not having the pool fill it in. then there is no chance of somebody or something falling in and breaking the decking. It doesn't have to be clean fill just dirt. Try calling local pool companies that build pools and ask what they do with the fill they remove
  16. I have had good success with the Hayward Tigershark. Is your pool a vinyl liner? yes. Here is link to the 9300 listed as all inground pool surfaces http://www.polarispool.com/files/brochure/...rochure9300.pdf link to Hayward look at applications. http://www.haywardnet.com/inground/product...oductID=229#one
  17. Phase 3 models were out arounf the first of the year and the pricing did not jump $800 to buy the spa from Watkins. Minimal price increase across the board, but nothing to do with new equipment. I just came off dealers web page. The new ACE Salt will only work with the new spas with upgrade controls and will not work with older models. The other is a $4000.00 retail wireless Tv/Audio package The bar top control is interfaced with the new salt and tv/audio system. If you want a salt system for a older spa, sorry out of luck unless you go third party, spapilot,Balboa etc
  18. I have no beef with you. Tone down the word spin a bit of other brands and we wouldn't even be talking. Because when I see words like these above I am going to jump all over it. Some folks love the MM by Hotsprings some don't but it has nothing to do with how it's engineered, operated or installed as it shouldn't. It's how it feels which is as it should be. oh I see its ok for you to bash open cavity style insulation when somebody post a question about it, but I can't can't point out shortcomings of the Hotspring design or full foam spa potenial problems. Watkins projects the Hotspring as the best spa ever. I don't see it, top of the line spa with a jet design that needs air to operate it is on or off. Its like buying a jag but can't change the radio station. Spas that won't start if the fill water is too cold WHAT. I have two store one with Watkins and one with Maax, so I know the difference between the two. Maax has poor marketing to promote there product, but what the Watkins people dish out is amazing. There new marketing in a nut shell is suck all the money you can out of exsisting spa owners by selling more accessories for the spa and only send private Emails about private store functions just for them. This makes no sense to me what about gaining new customers. I'll tell you spas are not selling and masco corp is in debt out the wazoo. I feel there is nothing wrong with telling the truth about a manufacture and you have not posted anything to contradict me. I am still looking for loose rivets on the Maax spas. You want to know some truth about maax. They used junk GE motors and have switch to pumps with AO Smith motors. They change there jet suppliers way to much. Had to many kinked hose problems. Its not a spin on other brands just one. Why do you feel compelled to stick up for them. I have been doing this since the dawn of portable spas and if you are disposing of old spas 1. people don't want them 2. they bought a new spa 3. you have a secret motive 4. don't know what hell you are doing Unless the shell is damaged bad, the spa can be fixed
  19. According to my info yes it can be setip to run on 230 volts. They don't list a diagram online for that spa, but sometimes there is one located on the back side of control box cover. try calling watkins at 1-800-999-4688 follow prompts to tech support
  20. if you ever took one apart you'd realize the air drives it by design, it has nothing to do with the flow of water so that pot shot is inaccurate. Actually, they are more reliable than many spas out there. If someone said they were the "most" reliable then I'd understand that pot shot but to say they are no more reliable than any other tells me you either don't have experience with them or you just plain hate them for some reason as you're not pointing out facts, you're just showing an extreme negative bias (which you're obviously entitled to). I think for a premium spa like Hot Spring says there should be a way to operate the moto massase better it is a dumb design and if it were that great by now someone else would have something close as a copy. I talk to people who by supplies who own a many different spas and there is no clear winner on being reliable. Problems arise no matter who makes them and it seems to be the normal stuff or bad water chem. These are D1, sundance, Old Marguis, Jacuzzi, Cal Spa, Hot Spring, Maax/Coleman year 2004 and up, even some cheapo ones. When I sold Nordic tubs they were bullet proof, but since Nordic is a smaller manufacture there is not much info about them. When I sold Caldera spas we 16 and 11 of them all needed repairs. I don't know how many units Maax sells that is private info just like everyone elses info. Masco with being a public company does not list how many units they sell either. and yes Roger they are effcient spas but it is hard to know who wins that battle overall, Maax claims there 780 model uses less power than Hotspring go figure. It is how the spa is used. if you read hotsprings disclaimer about how they come up with the effcient statement, general public wouldn,t know any different. It is a spa ran on 120 volts used 5-6 times a week with jet pump. well on 120 with jet pump on the heater will never kick in. Spas need a standard energy guide practice. We have customers that still have there old Amish Country spas from the 80,s as well as others in the area. I will agree with you there is a few years were Coleman spas were not worth the money, but since Performance Series was intrduced quality has risen. I never had one with loose screws for the frame, they don't use rivets. As for insulation I I was going by service and foam info. I have seen full foam spas freeze and break pipes and open cavity not and vice versa
  21. There are few Elite spas here in my area, people that own them like them. Nobody has told anything bad about Elite ownership. They all agree that they a good spa for the price and options. Maax who makes the elite spas seem to have in my opinion the nicest neck jet massage. The insulation debate well there is no clear winner in this catagory. I have sold pplenty of Maax spas here in Pa and never had a complaint about operating cost or heat loss. If you do a search on spray foam you will find that the most full foam spas use a open cell foam to fill the cavity. Open cell foam is sponge like and if the spa gets a leak the foam soaks it up and then is ruined. All the wet foam needs to be pulled out and resprayed. Under warranty that is ok, but out of warranty that's lots of labor to pull out foam to find a leak. The open cell foam is really in there for structure support, sound proofing, and the manufacture can install a thinner outside cabinet. Another thing about thermolock insulation is that some of the heat can be returned to the water thru the heat generated by the pumps thru the pvc pipes. A full foam spa exhausts heat out of the cabinet. When you look at the Hot Spring model some things to be aware of is the moto massage jets will not work unless the air control are on. Some models only use high speed pumps, so it is on full blast or off, no low speed for gentle massage, They do not even though they claim to recapture heat from the pumps. Tubes run behind the control compartment were you can see then right to exhaust to the outside. They also claim to use closed cell foam inside the cabinet. They spray it against the shell like most do and then fill the rest with the open cell stuff. They covers they make seem cheap and sag before anybody's elses covers. spray foam info http://www.sprayfoam.com/spps/ahpg.cfm?spgid=6 http://www.foam-tech.com/products/urethane...closed_cell.htm http://www.fomo.com/resources/technical-bu...llvsclosed.aspx there is no different foam for homes and spas it all the same stuff Wow, take the best selling, one of the very most reliable longest lasting most energy efficeint spas in the world (Hot Springs) and spin the words just right and all of a sudden a middle of the road tub (Maxx Elite) sounds so much better. They are the best selling because Watkins says they are. There is no info from Masco saying how many units they sell in the annual reports. They are energy efficeint because they use low hp pump that require air controls to be on to work the moto massage. Heating don't count because most all 230 volt spas heat about 20 amps with a 50 amp service. They are no better in reliability than the other manufactures. Watkins is a marketing company to sell product, I heard enough of there dribble to know I wasn't spinning words Just pointing out the facts about Hot Spring Spas.

  23. Just because it is fan assisted does not really make it more effcient it only changes from 82 to 84 percent. The reason for the fan is manufactures want to make smaller heaters and with small box it needs a blower to get enough fresh air for combustion. Another problem with fan heaters is that any fan exhaust the comes out the top alway will moisture problems from weather or condensation and they are noisy. Raypack heaters are quiet have the less parts in them and the best water flow and with polymer headers there is no rusting. I have never seen a Raypack heater have problems like listed above in fact the to worst heaters in this area are the Sta Rite and Pentair heaters.
  24. Get the pool builder to blow the lines with a blower uses to close pools. Compressed air will not purge the entire line
  25. Hot springs is there top of the line and have the moto massage options. Tiger river and Limelight are about the same. All the improvements seem to be made to limelight line. There are always talking about dropping the Tiger River line but never happens. I also find the limelight spas more comfortable with better jet locations then the Hot Spring models. Hot Spot and Solana are the basic spas they make although they are made the same way except many models for these two use jet pump and fast flo heater instead of the circ pump and some can ran off 120 volts. Caldera spas are alos made by watkins Manufacturing which is owned by Masco Corp. They is alot of parts the are interchangable between product lines and most of the product in made Mexico.
