Thinking Of Using Spa Magic

Hi there,

I'm in Canada so my choices of hot tub chemicals is somewhat limited. I'm tired of getting dry skin and red bumps once and awhile from the Bromine. I found this product called spa Magic, which is natural seeweed enzymes and is a stand alone product, you dont need Chlorine or Bromine. Has anyone on this forum, used this product with or without success. In Canada it is called spa Solutions.

thanks

Enzyme products will NOT sanitize the water. On the spa magic website in the FAQ it states that the product is compatible with chlorine, bromine and ozone. Why would it state this if a sanitizer was not necessary!?!?!?!

Enzymes can be a useful suplimental product but they do NOT take the place of a sanitizer in your water!

Never heard of it! Have you tried minerals, ozone, and clorine?

Spa Magic has had lab tests done that show that it does eliminate bacteria. Spa Magic cannot use the language "kills bacteria" or claim to be a sanitizer until field studies are completed and approved by the EPA as a sanitizer.

I am using spa magic in my hot tub and I can tell you that Spa Magic does remove bacteria from the water. I work for a wastewater treatment plant and we are required to remove pathogens from the effluent before releasing it to the river. We us a fecal coliform test to monitor the cleansing process. I took a sample from my hot tub and tested it using the same process. The results showed no fecal coliforms. I then took a effluent sample and ran the same fecal coliform test with and without treating it with Spa Magic. The effluent without Spa Magic showed 60 colonies of fecal coliform per 100 ml of effluent. The Spa Magic treated effluent at 60 degrees showed only 15 colonies - a 75% reduction. I reperformed the Spa Magic treated effluent test with the sample heated to onver 90 degrees and found no fecal coloform colonies. Email me or visit my website for more detail. I am not a certified lab, but these were personal observations of the product in a test we that we perform weekly at out treatment plant.

Spa Magic is compatable with chlorine and bromine, so that if you need additional sanitizing you can use it. Let be real, if you use your spa a lot and/ or people are getting in dirty, then the Spa Magic may get over loaded and a shock treatment may clear it up quicker. It is the same reason you shock your spa when using chlorine or bromine. My wife, son and I use our spa abou 3 to 4 days a week and have not used anything other than Spa Magic and some water clarifier to keep our spa clean. Cleaning your filter regularly is important. The bottom line for me is that I am not sitting in chlorine. I am not breathing it. I don't have to test the water for minimun levels of chlorine or shock it after each use. I just look at the water and I can see what it needs.

It is an alternative to chemicals, or at least it will minimize your exposure to the the chemicals, and the chlorine industry does like that.

Nothing personal but the internet is filled with bad information.

The key here is to find out the reason why makailey1 is experiencing red bumps and I personally don't feel that recommending an unproven way of sanitizing a spa is the answer. There are tens of thousands of people

using spas in Canada on bromine or chlorine so determining that he or she should go on strictly an enzyme system is just poor advice. I'm a fan of enzymes though it HAS TO BE used with a santizer! Well...for it to be safe anyway!

After determining water quality such as pH and alkalinity as well as TDS readings and a lab test for bacteria, then we should find out who is expereincing these bumps and could it be heat rash or a new soap that is being used in the house for laudry or bathing? Then we could look at alternatives and go with Chlorine.

The fear of "sitting in chlorine" is such a joke and lacks watercare knowledge! At 1-3ppm it's not an issue. Don't let these people scare you this way and it's just ignorance that feeds it.

Find a good local dealer that understands watercare and let them help you. The internet can be a great source of good information but it can also be dangerous.
