  1. Ok great I got some good pictures of the motor end. I did put the new capacitor on the top and the tub is doing the same thing. Stalling out with a humming noise when powered on. I can force it to move by turning on the high speed jet on this motor, then back to low speed and it will circulate and the tub heats properly. The low speed just doesn't start on the next circulation/heat cycle. I could run it continuously but I'd buy a new motor/pump before that. Can you tell me if there's a "start capacitor" that I may have missed? It seems the capacitor on this one might be a dual speed/stage but could just be a marketing term. Additionally, I noticed the tub is indicating an error code on the display but I don't think it's correct and might just be another symptom of the stalling problem. The display shows "FLO" and the manual for the tub that I downloaded years ago says for FLO (flashing with temp): (1) The filter may be plugged. Remove the filter and clean. (2) The amount of water flow may be inadequate. Make sure the spa is filled correctly. (3) The pressure switch may be malfunctioning. The spa will continue to operate, but the heater will not activate. Contact dealer or service center. I've checked the filter and all seems ok. There is plenty of water in the tub. The heater is working fine and the tub heats to full heat as long as I jump start the motor by cycling on/off the high speed jets..
  2. Thanks for the reply! So yes the impeller unscrewed pretty easily just by hand and threads are good on the shaft and impeller is not broken so I did not replace it. Impeller screws back onto the shaft very easily and is not rubbing on the inside of the new seal. The motor and wet end have signs that it's been opened before me so maybe that's why it's in decent condition. I guess there is a possibility that the shaft has become longer due to the expansion you mentioned; this could cause additional pressure against the seal.. and maybe the old seal was just worn down enough to spin more freely? Additionally, since posting my issue I've found that it could be the capacitor on this AO Smith motor. Other's have reported a humming and motor not starting. This motor doesn't appear to have a start capacitor, just a run capacitor on the "doghouse" on top of the motor, but maybe it functions as both for this motor..? It looks like a cheap part so I may grab one for $13 and try it out. Any thoughts on the capacitor?
  3. Hello all, I'm having an issue on my Leisure Bay G2 hot tub. It has 2 Waterway 56 frame motors/pumps. One of them (5hp) has 2 speeds; a low speed that should come on when powering up to circulate and the high speed jet for half the tub. I removed the motor/pump from the cabinet and replaced the spring seal and ceramic seal in the wet end of this 2 speed pump due to a slow drip. I never even disconnected the power from the control board, only ground wire. Leak is now fixed but when I turn on the breaker to power on the tub it makes a kind of buzzing or stalling sound at this motor and it does not spin. If I hit the high speed jet button for this motor then it comes on, then I can hit the button again to slow it to the lower circulation speed and it works great. What happens is it circulates water this way and the heater heats up the tub, then it turns off as it should until the next circulation cycle. When the next cycle comes time the pump stalls again when trying to start at low speed from being stopped. Essentially it seems that the low speed is not enough power to get it spinning and after awhile trying it trips the breaker. If I'm there to hit the jets and then back to low speed then it seems to work okay, but I won't be there waiting for that every time haha! I've taken out the motor again, confirmed wiring for continuity and connections are all ok and secure from the board to the motor. I even removed the spring seal and reinstalled to make sure it's fully seated (it's fully seated now and was before also). The bearings in the motor are great, very smooth and it spins freely very easily when the wet end is NOT connected. When the wet end pump is ON the motor I notice it's definitely harder to spin the motor freely. It seems that the new spring seal might be pressing against the ceramic seal with more force than the old leaky one and this might be binding up the low speed function. Is this common? Should I have bought the complete wet end instead? This might sound dumb but should I apply some grease where the spring seal meets the ceramic since that seems to be the sticky spot? I appreciate any insight!! The seal I purchased appears to be the correct part ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BY5MHRY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details )
  4. Hey man thanks for looking into this! Yeah so it was all connected just as the diagram shows (my pic has black disconnected from J17). White comes into TB1 and splits (hard to see in pic), goes on to transformer and also to ozone amp plug. Black comes from ozone amp plug to J17. When connected as the diagram shows it runs constantly. I guess I'm thinking since this is a 20-yr-old tub maybe the transformer or relay has gone bad and causes it to stay on? The board has a spot that says ozone relay which makes me think it should click on and off but this might just be stamped by Balboa and not used for this Leisure Bay model. Pic below
  5. So there is a low speed jet thats lowest to the floor so i planned to put the venturi tee onto that 3/4 jet with a turbo mixer. Guess i assumed the panel would cycle the ozone along with the low speed on pump1 for 4-6 hrs per day. I can program the low speed to run all day (2, 4, 6 hrs, or constant) but that uses a lot of power. Is there maybe an aftermarket low speed pump that i can use only for the ozone on the 1/4 tubing and have it run all day? Or maybe I should plumb it differently? Thanks!
  6. Hey guys, I'm having trouble installing an ozone generator to my hot tub. The Leisure Bay G2 appears to be wired for ozone but not plumbed. I understand the plumbing part and have all the parts I need to do that, but I can't get the ozone to turn off when the low speed pump turns off. I bought an UltraPure EUV3 (120-240v - .5amp) and it plugged right into the ozone-ready port on the control box. The light turns on so that's great, right!?.. well it doesn't turn off. It just stays on as long as it's plugged in. I've watched it over the course of a day and it just stays on while the low speed pump turns on and off as it should. Being stubborn, thinking I can outsmart the control panel, and knowing the ozone can handle 240 volts I wired it up to the same wiring for the low speed pump which is 230v. This should send power to the ozone at the same time as the low pump right? Nope it trips the breaker every time. I can plug the ozone into the pump1 port and it turns on ok but it appears this pump1 port won't drive both. I was thinking if the ozone is only .5amp surely the control panel won't know it's there, but evidently it does. Does this sound like an issue with the control board or maybe the transformer? I'm sure there's a relay or something that has gone bad. The hot tub manual says nothing about ozone timers so I assumed the board would tell the ozone power port when the low pump is on but it doesn't seem to. I've tried looking for directions on installing ozone electrical from scratch as if it were not ozone ready but can't seem to find much. I was thinking of trying my own relay/contactor switch that switches on when the pump switches on but it's hard to find a 240v coil contactor. Any help is much appreciated!! Balboa model DU-G2-DCAJ
  7. Hello all, I'm in the process of bringing an old hot tub back to life. The air hoses are clear and appear to show lots of growth/gunk in them so I'm assuming the water lines would be the same. Is there value in replacing the lines or maybe running a snake/pipecleaner through them to physically remove or scrub this from the inside? Many of the plumbing repair videos show people making repairs with obvious black sludge in the lines, they go on with repair without mentioning it. Maybe this is always going to be in the lines and it's just a matter of keeping the water at proper pH and sanitized? Thanks for any help!
  8. Hey guys, I recently bought a house with a Leisure Bay hot tub and I'm new to them. We filled it and found a few leaks that we can handle, but one is at the pump 2 seal. The main motor/pump is 2 speed and works fine. The other motor/pump 2 had a seized impeller and the drive shaft was so corroded to the impeller that I ended up breaking off the shaft end where it threads to the impeller. Anyway, the motor seems to work but I think since the shaft is broken I am looking at a whole motor/pump assembly at this point.. The one that's there now is a Waterway model PF-50-1N22C which also has the number 3711621-59. It's 5 HP but I can't tell if it has 2" or 2.5" in/out (they're both about 2.25" inside diameter). I found what appears to be the newer version on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Waterway-Plastics-3712021-1D-Executive-Complete/dp/B004VTH8YC) and I wanted to see if this might be a good replacement for what I have. I guess I just don't know if I need to find the exact same model or if I can go with this one, or maybe even a different brand 5HP pump. I have attached some pictures of my current equipment I appreciate any feedback, thanks!
