Kevin D
I'm in the process of replacing the pump/motor, but before I hook the plumbing all back up I thought I should at least jog the motor to ensure it is working. I turned on the circuit breaker and pressed the button on the control panel for this pump/motor and there is nothing happening. The tub is essentially empty at this time, so I'm wondering if there needs to be a certain amount of water in it before the pump will turn on? Note that the other pump/motor both turned on. Does the pump indicator on the topside come on when button pressed? Recheck wiring Test fuses
Kevin D
Thanks for the reply. The pump/motor stopped working about a year ago was the original problem. I figured I'd better replace it before winter hits again and I'm not so lucky. When I turn on the power to the spa, there is an indicator that shows the pump is running, but it is not. I can cycle this indicator on and off, but the pump still doesn't run. I took a picture of the wiring on the original motor and duplicated it on the new motor. There are only three wires and four connection posts, so it isn't difficult to mix up. Regarding fuses, where would I look for them? This is an ECCO brand spa, which I believe is now owned by Destiny Spas. I don't have any other information on the spa unless there is a tag behind a sidewall panel, and since my spa is inset into a deck, I prefer to not have to take apart another side of the deck if it isn't necessary. CanadianSpaTech
Do you have a multi meter and basic knowledge on how to use it? If you can post photos of the circuit board and the schematic on the inside cover if there is one. It could be as simple as a blown fuse or there could be an issue on the board or how the pump is wired but you will need to test with multi meter. Where on the planet are you located? . Kevin D
I have a multimeter, and sort of know how to use it, but don't understand what to look for from a troubleshooting standpoint. When I get home from work today I plan to take apart another section of the deck surrounding the hot tub and look for the circuit panel. I hope it is on the side under the control panel. I'll check first for any blown fuses - maybe I'll get lucky and that's all it is. It could be, since the old motor/pump shaft is seized and maybe it just blew a fuse when it seized. Would that be typical? Also, I'm from the west Chicago suburbs.
Kevin D
To follow up with you, I found three fuses behind a small panel below the control panel on the top of the spa. The middle fuse was blown. I replaced it and the motor for pump 2 started working - Yeah! Thanks for your help on this, and enjoy the rest of your summer. Rosa
I had a similar problem with my jets, they would make a humming noise but water wouldn’t run through them. I ordered a new capacitor after trying everything else, like turning a metal screw like which tends to rust and get stuck, but that wasn’t it. The capacitor is located on top of the motor it’s usually 2 screws that hold it. I swapped the wires and places the new one. It costs me a total of $17 for the new capacitor. That fixed my jet issue and now they run like new. Did you try to switch that before changing the whole motor?
