blindrid
First of all, my knowledge level shouuld be ranked "dangerous" I have leak around the shaft running from my pump into what I am guessing where the impellers are (round plastic housing). Are there replacement seals or am I looking at a replacement of the pump? 1998 Hot Springs Jetsetter, good shape - new heater, replaced heater relay board a few months ago. Any help is appreciated. Yes there are seals available but, at 12 years old it my be prudent to replace the entire pump if your plan is to keep the tub for another 12 years. Yes, I would just try to replace the seal assembly. No reason it shouldn't last another 12 years.

Yes, I would just try to replace the seal assembly. No reason it shouldn't last another 12 years. Very inexpensive and easy to do. I think the seal kit was around $12. After checking out some websites regarding the "how-to", it appears that I will need to take the impeller off, what are the chances of breaking that? And, I'm guessing I should also have an O-ring on hand in case I damage it taking the impeller housing apart ???
spatech (the unreal one)
After checking out some websites regarding the "how-to", it appears that I will need to take the impeller off, what are the chances of breaking that? And, I'm guessing I should also have an O-ring on hand in case I damage it taking the impeller housing apart ??? It may be simple but it could be difficult. Roger has a point about the fact that if the pump is 12 years old maybe a new pump would be wise but I'd go ahead with the repair with the idea that if it becomes a problem then you just go to plan B, new. There will be a slot or a nut head on the other end of the shaft to help. Your o-ring should be fine. I do reccomend some maji-lube or any plumbing lubrication for re-assembly on all mating surfaces including that o-ring and the new seal. djousma
Note that the impeller *may* have left handed threads on them. My old tub did. I too would just replace the seals. doesnt take long.
blindrid
Thanks all. Now I need a bit of good weather so I can get to work on it. I emailed the HS dealer and he suggested I just drop it by and have him take a look at it. I truly appreciate his offer and that may be the answer even though I prefer to do everything myself as I'm a bit stubborn. I'll let you all know.
