Gavin
just wondering cause my friends pool has a high CH and he's losing tiles. Maybe from scaling? Thanks.
quantumchromodynamics
No, high calcium cannot cause tile to be lost.
Gavin
No, high calcium cannot cause tile to be lost. what about the scaling? doesn't the grout get removed? ok thanks so scale is really just a build up on the pool wall and floor surface? I think it is the opposite. Low CH causes the water to pull from the plaster and grout. This could losen tiles. What say the experts? chem geek
I agree with the above that a low saturation index, which can be from a very low CH or from low TA and especially from low pH, can dissolve the calcium carbonate in grout and thereby loosen tiles. The opposite situation of a high saturation index, say from high CH, could form scale but I don't see how that would loosen tile.
Gavin
Thanks guys. I guess keeping the CSI just right is the main thing?
