The Official "thank You Chem Geek" Thread

I'm a newbie and have really benefited from this forum. In particular, I really appreciate the time that Richard (Chem Geek) has taken to answer questions and provide solutions. Clearly, the guy knows his stuff, and his responses are detailed and thoughtful. Further, I know that I'm not the only one that's benefited.

So, I hope you'll all join me in thanking Richard for his time and knowledge. Maybe he'll reconsider and come back.

Cheers.

I have only been a member for a couple of months and have really benefited from this forum. Especially the posts by Richard, Chem Geek. So, it was with great dismay that I saw how a recent parvenu claiming superior knowledge attacked Chem Geek in a very personal way and then disappeared. I am glad that person is gone, but I wish that Chem Geek had not left the forum.

I tried the other forums, but there doesn't seem to be one that has a special section for water chemistry. There may be good information mixed in, but you have to wade through "how much did your hot tub cost?" and "who is the best dealer?"

Maybe Chem Geek got tired of answering the same questions over and over again from people who are using homeopathic sized doses of sanitizer, in which case, God bless him, I hope he is doing something more fun. But if not, I really hope he will come back, especially since the Water Senile seems to be gone now.

I am still getting a lot out of his posts from the past and on the other site. It seems like a lot of the same material comes up again and again. However, I was really interested in the information coming out on using bleach, CYA levels, MPS use, etc that was developing here and would have liked to see where it led.

Thanks, Chem Geek, for sharing your fine brain with newbies like me.

I too found Richard's input to be exceptional. I have followed the other forum for years, but this forum has so much more activity realated to spas in particular. I will follow the quality of the content. After finding so much good information about pools on the net I have been very frustrated to see that nearly all of the spa related sites are dominated by professionals who's income is tied to sales and service of spas and supplies. I would welcome Richard back to this forum, but I understand his reluctance to be ridiculed and attacked for his technical analysis.

In early Feb., I started a thread that prompted a few folks to post some angry responses. I tried arguing back until I got the following excellent advice from joeybobby:

"I don't know how familiar with posting in forums you are but there always tends to be somebody that likes to argue no matter what you say.. My advice is don't join in on the argument. I'm sure there are lots of people that are reading your posts and not replying that actually appreciate and understand what you are saying. There will always be the 2 or 3 that try to outdo each other for some odd reason..."

I hope that Chem Geek is still monitoring this forum and will take joeybobby's advice and reconsider his decision to stop posting. I have only been a spa owner for about 7 months. I have learned a lot from this forum and especially from Richard/Chem Geek. Please come back!!

When did all this go down? What thread was it on?

I, too, very much valued Richard's input. Here's hoping he comes back!

Guess the mods here are afraid that if people know which forum chemgeek went to they will lose too much traffic since every post that tell where he is now has been deleted (and not just the one I posted)! Funny how they didn't seem to mind when other forums were metioned as long as he was posting here!

Although I did not agree with using bleach in a hot tub, I found Richard to be great at helping us with several issues. I brought up several of these issues with him and he responded decently to them. I just wanted people to be informed of all the facts such as warranty, high PH, having to maintain tub 2 plus times a day and not just dump bleach in. Richard made it clear that there are several steps to take when using bleach. I also wanted it to be clear that not all dealers are out to get peoples money. you make more money in the long run with happy customers. I think watersentinel was getting frusterated that people saw chem geeks write ups and thought he was a specialist in hot tubs. He was trying to make some other points. I think Chem geek should post here as I think and have always thought that a bunch of heads together will get better results than just one.
