  1. I would think you are right,no heater in soft tubs so the heat you can get from the elec. motor is probably all you get.Maybe you can rig up a spa heater some how.
  2. I dont know of any therma spa dealers on LI,did you wet test the jacuzzi & arctic tubs at premeire pools & gazebos in farmingdale? We bought our arctic tub from them & they seem like good people. You might want to do a google search on therma spas. Good luck
  3. We have aroma therapy on our tub & its pretty cool,I really want to try some of my deer hunting scents say like DOE IN HEAT or maybe ESTRUS DOE URINE but the mrs. says no!
  4. I,m new at this hot tub thing but we bought an arctic cub.We love it!Ofcourse its only been here 3 weeks or so but it seems to be pretty good about energy usage. The covers that come with arctics are great, they really hold the heat in.The controls are easy to use.the pumps are strong & quiet. The air pump sounds like a jet engine when you run it but it works great. The arctics have real good warrantys 5 years on most & ten years on the legend series if I,m correct.Good luck
  5. Dont worry about the arctic using more energy than a jacuzzi cause it wont. The cedar shell only takes minimal care, once or maybe twice a year I figure it will need some varnish.Besides they look ten times better than fake wood imo ofcourse. We tested a jacuzzi 480 as well & thought it was great but I just couldnt go with full foam, once again its only my opinion. The dealer had both brands as well & would of sold us either one but after talking to the service guys,we were sold on the arctic. The canadians live in a much colder climate than I do so I figure they built their tubs with tp for a reason.
  6. as I learned on this forum you should wet test any tub before you consider it.Just my opinion.
  7. Sounds like theres loose or bare wire in there somewhere. If the ground came in contact with one of the hot legs it should of tripped the gfi.Anything else should of tripped the breaker.Since it did neither I would say first off your lucky,& second maybe its not hooked up right.Who did the elec. work on your tub?IMHO I would check out the whole wiring system stem to stern.Good luck
  8. We had gotten prices on jacuzzi tubs in the same range. We live on LI NY so the prices we got are probably higher like everything else around here!we were quoted about 11 grand for the 480 but it had the ozonator,no radio. The smaller 360 was 9500 out the door no radio but ozone. The problem with the jacuzzi dealers on Li is they didnt want to take nothing off the prices ie-no bargaining. We were told by someone we met at the dealer that they bought a jacuzzi but same thing,no price dealing.Good luck
  9. We decided to go with Arctic after wet testing. We bought the cub model. We wet tested hot springs tubs too, cant remember which models& felt that we floated around too much.No one can tell you which one is good for you....test yourself.I can say though the arctic tubs have a rougher type surface that did the hot springs & we liked that.Weve only had it for 5 days so time will tell how it goes. The electric usage I hope wont be as bad as I,ve heard.I dont think that theres a perfect tub out there so do as most of the good people on this forum say...wet test. good luck
  10. Well we finally joined the ranks & couldnt be happier.Tub came on Saturday at noon, filled in about an hour or so & we were soaking that night.I dont know how we did without one of these wonderful inventions for so long....its great! The dealer is sending his service rep out today to make sure everything is cool & to give us some hotub lessons.
  11. Excellent job!It looks like you have lots of privacy in your yard, happy soaking.
  12. No we had no thought of that but it is a good idea. It does look like it needs something to cover the PT wood. Your set up looks great!I hope my comes out as nice.good luck & happy soaking.
  13. Costco could have been like Arctic spas and turned away when the crap hit the fan untill the internet was full of people wondering what happened to there warranty and service they thought they paid for? It is just refreshing to see Costco on top of the game with absolutely no issues online about owners not getting warranty support when they had no obligation to do anything. Boy after just buying an arctic spa I sure hope my dealer doesnt go under! He,s the only guy on LI that sells them too.
  14. Well the wet test of the Arctic cub went great & we bought that very tub!The color was right, green with ofcourse the cedar cabinet that all arctics have.I spent the weekend installing a 200 amp service so we could have a space for the breaker.Man that was lots of work! They are going to deliver the tub on saturday so I have to get busy running the pipe & wire etc. so it can be hooked up when they are here. The dealer wants to do everything in one shot & I think thats a good idea....dont want to wait for him to come back. With good luck we will be soaking this weekend.
  15. We will be testing out the tub sometime this week.In the mean time I am enjoying reading all the posts on this forum. As I work for the local utility in the electric field,I can figure out pretty close how much "juice"a hot tub will use more importantly how much it will cost to run.Ofcourse everyone will use their tubs differently but when they are running on one pump or two (same brand of course) they use the same amount of power. We here on LI pay some of the highest utility bills in the country so we are concerned about the cost of running a tub.I,ve heard horror stories from people here about their bills doubling running a spa all year long & not even using it much during the winter! We,re not afraid to get one now though as I,ve wanted one for years, I figure its time to start soaking!
  16. Actually the 7 foot arctic models cost on average 1000 to 1500 dollars less around here than most other brands we checked out.we liked the D-1 tubs but the dealer ....we didnt feel right about him.If I,ve learned anything on this forum its to get a good dealer who you feel good about. The arctic dealer didnt try to scare us into one of his tubs,as a matter of fact he sells Jacuzzi,s as well and would of been just as happy to sell us one of those.
  17. i wet tested a 562 2 days ago & in my new-be opinion it was nice but pricey. The dealer gave me a "consumer proposal"that totaled about 8500.It seems that the tubs base price is 6200 & goes up from there. The jet packs go from 460 to over 500.The tub was nice but all the seats seemed the same to me.I also didnt like his "if you buy it now" approach.
  18. We got the dealer to fill it & will be checking it out this weekend. He also said he will be happy to provide some names of people that own these tubs.
  19. thanks for the info.We are going to look at some more tubs this weekend at a home show.I think some of the dealers will fill their tubs to wet test.I kinda like the non full foam tubs cause I guess that after the warranty is up I will probably be fixing any problems myself.I,ll say one thing, there are some great tubs out there & Ive found atleast one thing that I like on everyone of them!
  20. first off I would like to say thanks to all the people on this forum for all the great info on spas.we are currently looking to buy a new tub and have a multitude of dealers here on good ole Long Island N.Y..We have so far wet tested 2 Jacuzzis-the 480 & 355.The 480 was out of our price range & the 355 really didnt do it for us either for the money they wanted for it.Tried Hot Springs & Tiger river tubs last week but we both seemed to float around too much in them, didnt care for the motosage too much. When we wet tested a Coast tub we both thought it was great but the dealer was in question, better buisness issues. Our quest to soak then took us to an arctic dealer, the only one on LI.He had a Kodiak to test & we thought it was great but again not in our budget.I really like the fact that its not full foam so it should be easier to see & fix leaks should they occur. The model in our budget was the CUB ultra. He has a floor model that he offered to us for $7000.I dont know if he will fill it & let us wet test it so is their anyone out there that has one? How about the disposable filters? The tub has a lounge, any floating issues?Any help would be great.
