AlaninTx Posted April 23 Report Share Posted April 23 We had a power surge last night and when I went to use my hot tub (about a 2007 Coleman (Maax) 461 with Balboa electronics, it read “STU” (motor stuck?). As usual, first troubleshooting step - power off and power on. That replaced the message with “HOT” (something overheated?). Everything was nice and cool, so I powered it off, moved A1 up to test mode, powered it on and got “OHH” (Overheat?) , which is where it now sits. Kind of strange as it happened in the middle of the night with the tub in standby on a 40° F night. I just started researching it, but figured I’d reach out and see if anybody has the “magic bullet” (not the food processor). I took a pic of the Balboa circuit board if that helps. Thanks, in advance, to anybody that can get me a couple more nice nights in the tub, before the brutal Texas summer rolls in. All thoughts and opinions welcome! Thanks! CanadianSpaTech Posted April 23 Report Share Posted April 23 Test the 2 green buss fuses that say SC25 or SC 30 on them. Does the heating/filtering related pump run in low or the circ pump if it has one? AlaninTx Posted April 25 Author Report Share Posted April 25 The good news - the buss fuses measured ok. the Bad news - now the 50 Amp GFI trips whenever I try to turn on the power. CanadianSpaTech Posted April 25 Report Share Posted April 25 Most common trip cause is the heater element. Disconnect the heater from the board and see if it holds. If it still trips disconnect each component one at a time until it holds (pumps, Ozone). Unfortunately, it is still. Stuck with the OHH error. It turns on the pump, tries to prime, and then shuts off. CanadianSpaTech Posted May 6 Report Share Posted May 6 Most of Balboa documents are direct to PDF so can't post links here. Research balboa persistent memory reset and also TEST mode. Try and do a reset. Always remove filters when testing for flow issues. Remove them from the equation. Might want to test the sensors or try a new sensor set if all else fails. AlaninTx Posted May 7 Author Report Share Posted May 7 Saw the instincts for persistent memory and test mode. Right now, the hearer appears to be the culprit for tripping the GFCI. Now disconnected just OHH and the pump will try to prme i try the test mode and persistent men dip swithes and see if that goes anywhere. looks like I’ll need a new heater, and possibly a new logic board. CanadianSpaTech Posted May 7 Report Share Posted May 7 The heater just buy an element and not the entire heater tube assembly. I have dealt with many power surges in the past and they can do a lot of damage to spa packs and you have to go through each step along the way. I have the advantage of having parts available to check each step. I would order and install a new heater element as you know it's damaged and tripping the breaker. Next I am trying a memory rest. If that fails then I am on to sensors. Testing or replacing. If all that fails a new spa pack. Or go straight to the pack replacement and get it all in one. 54301 replacement. Feel free to PM me at Alan @oddpost.com my friend in Canada - the spa is 18 years old, so replacing the “engine” is not a surprise., ill try the persistent mem switch and test mode, but my gut says it’s fried. seems like the Spapack that you mention in your link and the Balboa Bp7 look like good candidates. They might even be the same, as balboa seems a bit cagey. a few years ago, I’d have no problem fixing it myself, but age is creeping up on me. AlaninTx Posted May 11 Author Report Share Posted May 11 Ended up getting the EL2000 as per the link that was sent. Looks like a direct replacement and it will accept the existing top side controller. The BP7 looks like it would have worked as well, but would have had to change out the topside controller (which was included), but I decided to just go with the simplest replacement.
