Ivey
First-time pool, only 10 ft. diameter above ground. Found this floating on surface tonight after shutting off filter pump. Chemical balance of water is good, have been shocking regularly (about 1x week), running 1000 gpm cartridge filter pump regularly, and cleaning/changing filter, brushing every 2-3 days and skimming daily. No vacuuming (though I ordered an inexpensive manual vacuum last week that just arrived this past Friday). Have had some heavy rainfall over the last week. Did some searching online, and closest guess is white water mold. Can anyone confirm from this picture?
waterbear
Can't really see anything in the picture. White water mold usually occurs when you are using a biquinide/peroxide system like Soft Swim or Baquacil. It's uncommon with chlorine or bromine unless you are undersanitized or (with chlorine) over stabilized. 16 minutes ago, Ivey said: Chemical balance of water is good This tell us nothing. Please post a full set of test results and how they were obtained (strips, liquid reagent kit, strips or reagents read with a meter, dealer testing and how they did it (liquid reagents, strips, strips with meter, disc with meter). 18 minutes ago, Ivey said: have been shocking regularly (about 1x week) What are you shocking with? (chlorine, non chlorine shock, etc. IF chlorine, what is the chemical (calcium hypochlorite, dichlor, sodium hypochlorite aka. liquid shock, pool chlorine, laundry bleach) FWIW, shocking is not really needed weekly as long as your combined chlorine is 0 ppm which is the case when you maintain the proper free chlorine level for your stabilizer level. For example, I only have to shock my pool maybe once or twice a year and it's open year round. 23 minutes ago, Ivey said: Have had some heavy rainfall over the last week. Did you make sure your sanitizer levels did not drop because of the rainfall? How often do you test your water?
