sdawson0218
Hi everyone, I got a 150 gallon Aleko inflatable about 6 months ago. I had been using the chlorox xtrablue granulated chlorine. That worked well, but I would have to add it every day or two. So I bought a floater and a container of 1" Kem-Tek 177 tablets hoping I could get to the point of only adding chlorine once a week. Unfortunately they are too concentrated and they dissolve too fast. They dissolve completely in 3 days and put WAY too much chlorine into the water for 150 gal, around the level of 15-30 ppm, maybe higher because the OTO test doesnt have a gauge for that color , which is dark orange. I completely shut the holes on the floater to slow down the dissolve time and still i am having issues. Does anyone know of a 1" chlorine tablet that is made for spas, will last a week, and is less concentrated? As it stands, I cant use my hot tub, and will need to remove the floater for at least 3 days for the chlorine to drop enough to use again. RDspaguy
Floaters are bad, mmm-kay?😂 Seriously, read the dichlor/ bleach method at the beginning of the spa water chemistry forum. Tablets are bad, floaters are worse. It doesn't take much to pour in a dollop of bleach after every time you use it, and a few times a week otherwise. Tablets destroy equipment and maybe even your inflatable spa.
castletonia
What RDspaguy said. Chlorine tabs dissolve quickly in warm water which is why they are never suggested. Plus they are really acid and will bottom out your pH in no time. Now, if you are set on ignoring the above and must use chlorine tablets, BioGuard has their SilkGuard tablets which do have an anti-erosion chemical added which slows down the process of the tablet dissolving (In full disclosure, I sell BioGuard products). I still wouldn't use tablets in a hot tub, but in my experience, this is your best bet if you are set on it.
