rondog
hey guys I have a spa heater that uses natural gas currently. I want to convert it propane. Does anyone have any experience doing that? I've found lots of natural gas to propane conversion kits on google, but I have no idea which one I would need. The spa heater is a Teledyne Laars XL. Any info would be great, thanks.
Hillbilly Hot Tub
I would call the gas company to be safe, or go local to a pool/spa store that knows what they are doing with gas heaters. better safe when it comes to gas IMO. rondog
ok with that said...what is the possibility of running one of these heaters off a bbq propane tank? Sorry if thats a silly question

Sorry if thats a silly question A 20lb cylinder has roughly 360k btu in it. You'll go through half to all of that heating a tub on first fill, depending upon efficiency of the heater and tub size. You might get a few days to a wk out of a std. propane tank. Very expensive way to heat a tub IMHO, unless you have access to bulk pricing- the blue rhino and amerigas people will love you. As far as converting to propane, it will require a new orifice at a minimum- this is something that will need to be provided by the mfg, if it is even available. otherwise you're playing with fire (literally). There's not enough surface area in a BBQ tank to give anywhere near enough output of gas.
