thompsdw
I have a pool that has been filled for about 2 months. Salt has been in the pool for about a month. Chemistry is great, but the CA is a little low at 35. The last time I tested it for CA was about a month ago and I couldn't detect any CA at that time, so it is slowly coming up. I am in Houston, TX and the chlorine content is really a little high because none is evaporating at this time of year. So, should I add stabilizer or simply wait for the level to increase to the desired level of 70-80?

Unless you are adding stabilizer (either by using a stabilzied chlorine like dichlor or trichlor, using a propriatary salt mixture that contains CYA or adding CYA it is NOT going to increase on it's own. Add enough to bring it up to 80 ppm and then readjust the generator to maintain the FC at 4 ppm.
thompsdw
Thank you. I added stabilizer today. It may have been in the salt.
waterbear
What kind of salt are you using? Bioguard Mineral spings? Natural Chemistry Salt Water Magic? These two proprietary and overpriced mixes do contain some CYA.
thompsdw
I think it was the natural chemistry brand. The CYA test is not the easiest to complete, my tube was filled before the dot blurred. There is a noticeable difference in opacity now that I added the gallon of conditioner.
