Silent Flo 5000 Circulation Pump Issue

I had a power glitch that kept happening in my neighborhood this past Saturday, what happened was the power would go about for about 20 seconds every 15 minutes, this went on for about 3 hours.

Once everything stabilized, I went out to put some chlorine in the tub, and noticed that the ozone was no longer working. I unhooked it, and it seems that water backed up into it, even though it was mounted higher than the Water Level. Now I thought everything else was working ok, but its not. It seems that my Circulation Pump, Silent Flo 5000, is not pumping either. So now the heater is tripping the Hi Limit switch. The tub is a 98 Hot Springs Grande Model. Both of the Jet pumps are working fine, but the circ pump does not seem to be doing anything.

I took the panel off the control box and I have 115 v going to the wires on the Pump, but the pump will get a lil warm but not much, I tried tapping it with a hammer as you would do for a car starter to see if it would start up, but still no go. I removed the filters and have them soaking now, they were not that bad, so that should not have causeed it. I pulled the hoses off both ends of the pump, they both flow water with quite a bit of pressure, so theres no clogs that I can find either.

Is my pump shot? Or is there a way to take this pump off and have it rebuilt or even see whats not working in it. It seems the motor is not turning, is my guess, so I think the power fried it, when it was glitching.

Thanks,

Bryan

The silentflow 5000 is not even the current model anymore (in 2009 i think it's the e5). if you needed replacement, i would get the new model at http://www.backyardplus.com, they have been my source for everything for my 95' grandee.

I read that calcium can get built up in them and take it out and smack it hard down on the flat end on the concrete (like your hammer tricK) and it can sometimes dislodge the built-up to allow it to start. either way, you probably would need replacing soon. i jusst replaced mine. good luck

Thanks Guys. Dan.the.spa.man, I messaged you back.

I am going to replace it to get it all back up and running. Thanks for all the input.

Bryan

You mentioned in the PM that you drained the tub to prevent freezing. You really should have blown it out as well...not sure if you did. If not, some water remains in the lines and will freeze.

You may want to put a small lamp or automotive lamp in the motor compartment to keep the lines from freezing in there.
