AquaTechPool
I'm a pool guy. I 've never seen a good one. I've seen lots. They are temporary fixes, very temporary. If you are selling the house, and want to make a short term improvement, then I may approve. Otherwise, save your money and replaster. That is my opinion. I also don't offer this service for that reason. I acid wash and recommend replastering. Paul

Maybe 3-5 years from now I will re-plaster. My pool isnt that bad, just a light bit of algae that seems to be impregnated in to the plaster in areas that proper sanitation hasn't seemed to get rid of (previous owner may have had an algae bloom). I was considering RAMUC Hi-Build Epoxy Paint, which would run me about $700 for all, but if it turns out looking not ideal, then the work may not be worth it. I wish I could acid wash and then somehow make the surface of my gunite non-poruous. If I have plenty of gunite to work with, it's a shame it has to be porous and able to absorb stuff in it, right? MKuz14
I would not recommend painting over plaster. As a pool professional i would never paint over plaster. BIG WASTE OF TIME!! It will chip! I see nothing wrong with draining it and trying to acid wash it to get that "wow" factor of a white pool. Its a shame that you cant make surface smooth without re-plastering. You'd be better off saving up to get your pool re-plastered in the future. That is your best solution

I had decided to just acid wash, make it perfectly white, then I thought I would go over the whole pool with an angle grider and 150 or so sand paper to make sure that the top surface is smooth, rinse again TSP and then fill. I spoke to 2 people on here over PM who had lightly sanded the surface after acid wash, taking off just the light little porous material and said that the surface was smooth afterwards and really nice. I hope this works out. It's going to be a weekend job here sometime soon.
MKuz14
Good idea! I have done that on a few in ground spas with a palm sander with 150 grit sand paper and it was a great success. Best of luck to you on your weekend project!
