USAMariner
I'm sure there are plenty of questions on this, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. We recently opened the pool and am still the progress of vacuuming etc and getting all the leaves out that ended up there thanks to our cover been shot. We took our water to the store and the ph level came back fine, but it showed no chlorine despite the fact we do have 3" tabs in the filter and I have put some shock in the pool. Maybe I'm not putting enough in? Anyway, there is still a fair amount of leaves in the pool but I'm working my way there. Will this affect the levels of chlorine in the pool? Does the mass soak up some of the chemicals? Our pool holds approximately 22,000 gallons. What is the recommended amount of shock I should add? Save the pH Increaser, Alk-Up and tabs for after you get the debris out. Use regular Cal-Hypo shock daily. Step 1: Scoop out debris Step 2: Wait for stuff in suspended debris you stirred up to settle. Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 until nothing comes out. Step 4: Brush walls Step 5: Repeat step 2 Step 6: Vacuum to waste. Don't try to get everything. Just the majority. If your skimmer is tied to your drains, don't drain too much that the pump sucks air. Watch the pump basket and empty if frequently. It will fill with debris pretty fast. You don't want to crack it. That will let debris clog the pump's impeller. Step 7: Refill pool Step 8: Repeat 6 and 7 as needed Step 9: If you have gotten the bottom nearly clean, balance your pool. Sand filter owners can use a quart of clarifier at this point too. Step 10: Do your final vacuuming. During the above process, keep the pump running continuously and check your filter pressure regularly and frequently. When the pool is clean and balanced, then set the timer pins or if you have an automation system.... Hope you don't have to deal with what looks like the Sargasso Sea or kelp beds. Good luck.
