pbiancardi
Does this look ok to you guys? My deck sits about 10" off of the ground, it has 2x6 deck boards with 2x8 joists @ 24" O.C., there is a double 2x8 beam around the center of the deck which sits on 4x4 posts that are set in concrete piers. I would like to position a spa (guessing 5000 lbs with water and people) on the center of this beam, two dealers both told me this is no problem, I would rather get a more informed opinion before I proceed. Note the spa is 91" x 91" so about 5000 lbs / 57 sf = 87 lbs / sf, does my deck look up to it? Check out the pic: Thanks again for the help. dave nh
IMO deck is not sufficient for that dead load and anticipated live load. you should check with your local building official for you areas requirements, a 24" oc is not permitted around here even without a spa. good luck. be safe. This is a bit overkill but that is never bad.
