Down East Hot Tub Model Windsor Sts

Recommended Posts

Went to a pool and spa expo in Massachusetts just to look at hot tubs. At the time, we did not realize it was one manufacturer (Master Spa) who does this misleading type of marketing. We ended up putting a deposit on a Down East Hot Tub. The model was a Windsor STS with a DVD player, CD player, Ipod input, etc. - It looks great and we were told we would get every option, including the cover, steps and original supplies. The Manager Jim, told us that it retails for around $13K, but he would sell it to us for $11,450. He said that price is the lowest he would go and was actually $750 lower than what the original salesman we spoke to was authorized to sell it to us for. We were not sold the floor model because that was already sold, but we were told we would be getting a brand new one. My questions are... Did we get a good deal on this hot tub and is it a good hot tub?

Welcome to the Forum. As you may have already discovered, most internet forums are not very complimentary of the Master-Spas traveling one vendor trade show. You aren't alone in having gotten sucked in to the pitch. I have a Down East Windsor SE, w/o all the STS features. I am happy with my tub and have had no trouble with it, but if had it to do over again I might not get the same tub. I would encourage you to exercise any rights you have to at least put the deal on hold while you do more comparison shopping. The more you know before you buy, the less regrets you'll have down the road.

That is way to much money for a middle of the road tub. You can just about have any spa you want for that kind of money or at the very least get a top of the line tub.

Thank you Chris & Roger. We are going to put the order on hold and do some research.

I see the show of deception strikes again. Granted, I'm no Master fan due to this type of thing (as well as my opinion on their quality and energy use) but $11.5k for a Down East? I thought that was supposed to be their mid range spa brand? I know the TV adds $ but that seems high and getting a TV in a spa is crazy anyway. If you do decide to stick with them skip the TV at least, too much trouble. BTW, since this appears to be the corporate traveling spa circus expect them to begin with a "no you can't cancel" or even a "we already ordered it" bluff if you try to rescind but just stick to your guns if you do want an out at such an early date. Hopefully you paid with credit card so you have that behind you.

Stick with a spa from a local dealer who sells more of a quality brand and will be around after the sale for you.

Jimmy,

Where was the show and who is the local dealer? I agree that the price seems high for a mid rage spa. I have a Master Spa LSX700 and like it alot, but I don't think they are as well insulated as full foam tubs. Next time you look at one, notice that there is a lip running all the way around the spa that is not insulated. I had to add insulation to keep my bills under $75 per month. I am in NE also.

Mike,

The show was in Wilmington, MA. The local dealer was Crocker Sales in Woburn. I spoke to the Sales Manager at Crocker and he seemed knowledgeable. I am sure he gets calls like the one we had every time there is a NE show. He reassured me that the retail price for this spa with all the bells and whistles was around $13K, and that I saved around $1,500. The problem is that both me and my wife love the TV and the stereo built in, even at that cost. We would be the first on the block to have a hot tub with a TV, which is kind of cool. The kids are thrilled with it as well and I am sure they will be the ones using it the most. I just wanted to make sure we weren't getting completely ripped off, which it doesn't look like we really are. It seems like the biggest problem is that everyone feels deceived after going to one of the shows, but after getting over that, enjoys their hot tub for the most part.

Thanks for your advice,

Jim
