  1. Wow..that sounds really neat. Please post pictures and let us know how it works.
  2. Ok bad news. The meter did not do what i wanted (They had set the scale to low for monitoring something else). When i went to look at the averages they were all zeroed out. Which apparenly means i went off the scale. So, i have to wait tell next weekend to take one home again. Would have been neat cause its soo cold out here! -36c (-32.8F) with a windchill of -45c (-49f) and this tub is out in the open!
  3. I have the meter on my tubs line since last night. Will take the average reading after 24 hours and post here. Sadly its freaking cold out!! -30c (-22f) right now and was colder at night. Windchill was -42c (-43.6f). I can take this thing home when ever i want so will do some more tests. Apparently is worth over $3,000.
  4. i wonder what kind of cheap spas you guys are buying to have that much trouble? I had my last spa for about 5 years, and only had one problem, and it was that my ozanator stopped working. I actually did buy that one from the dealer, but took out the ozanator myself. Found out it was not covered by the warranty...and just kept using it with out a warranty. They were helpful when i was not sure about the chemicals and stuff..though that information for that can be found online these days. That tub was indoors though, so not sure if that makes a difference in how realiable they are. THis one is outside...and affected by the weather...so will see.
  5. Some stuff on this site really makes me laugh. Anyone who says something positive..and yes it appears to only happen when someone says it about the platinum spas, the same thing happens. Is it a template that you guys copy from somewhere? Why do you even care? I have never gone into a thread where guys are talking about some other brand of spa, and spouted off stuff. I have once posted something on filter maintenance for another spa...but thats it. I do comment in the PE II threads, since..well..i have one and i like it..and feel someone needs to speak from that side of things. Anyway....gotta run..looking forward to testing power consumption of my PE II this weekend....but its going to be COLD!!! High of -17f and low of -35f!!! Hope you enjoy your spa Jwillard.
  6. Good news.. I just found out my work has several meters. I will take one home in the next few days. Its very easy to hook up and will log all the data to a computer. I will check the consumption of the tub..and also record some out door temps during that time. Will let you guys know what it shows. Further down the road (when its not so cold) i will add the insualtion. Guess i will not be able to re-test tell next winter (unless we get a warm spell soon)
  7. What are the temps out there? It just seems to strange to me that we have not noticed a huge increase if all you other guys have. Its very open and windy where we have our spa (next summer we will do something about that)... And we use it alot....and alot of kids too, which seems to really cool the thing down (my older two kids and their friends seem to think its fun to jumpp off the tub into the snow..then get back in). Still, i will get a meter and see what we are using, maybe we are using alot, and some other chance i cannot think of is compensating for that...
  8. Wow..that is high. I have not added any insulation to our (Platinum II) as well. We live n Canada (-24c, -11F out right now) and our bills have hardly changed. But..its kinda hard to tell becuase its been very mild here up until now... but a 325 change is huge. We run ours on the standard heating setting. (I think that is what it is). Never really tried the economy setting. There are some posts on this forum about adding extra insulation, and i was thinking of doing that in summer. Does your have the styrofoam layer and the bubble foil type layer of insulation?
  9. Hmm..good info..will play with my stereo today then! I did not really have a problem with it as i have not tried to push it at all... But thanks!!!
  10. I bought the Platinum II from Costco a few months ago. We are very happy with it, and the price was really good. I think they are now selling the Platinum III http://www.platinumhottubs.com/. If you want to spend a bit less, it might be worth looking at. We paid $5,000 for ours and its pretty much loaded. US prices might be different, I am in Canada. (For what its worth, this is the 2nd tub we have owned.....)
  11. Look at how many people on this read the costco posts. Its actually pretty amazing compared to the views on the other threads. But..then again..there are three people that just love to talk smack about these tubs and they might be generating most of those views!!
  12. I used a trailer. Thought about using truck..but was not sure it would be safe (its an hour from where i live to where the tub was). Local lumber yard moved it from the driveway to my back yard with a fork lift for $40.00.
  13. I need to check our bills more carefully, but so i have not noticed any huge increase (and we live in Manitoba Canada). But, am also interested in more insulation anything that saves me money with little cost is a good thing! GDM my tub has silver bubble insulation between the styrofoam and the shell. Its a Platinum II. I might be wrong...but something tells me i read somehwere that the cdn version had more insulation. Which is probably the bubble layer???
  14. Bought one on Oct and we love it. One question i had to tech guys was answered quickly. (Sorry its the II not the latest one.)
  15. That does sound better. I seem to get junk between the ridges?? in the filter, and the pressure washer is able to clean most of that out. I kinda spray down at an angle as i slowly turn them, and the stuff washes out the bottom Maybe i will give the dishwasher a try and see how it comes out. Anyone else have suggestions on easier ways to clean cartrige filters.
  16. I saw a post somewhere or other about cleaning the filters in the dishwasher. Is this a good idea? I have been taking ours to the pressure washer at the car wash..and its kinda a pain....dishwasher would be very convienent.
  17. Will check that..but in all honesty, i could care less what the number says, i just want to get it a bit hotter.
  18. I too would like to get mine hotter then 104 (not sure what controller i have) its a Costco Plantinum II tub. If anyone has any ideas please share!
  19. Well said. Seems like anytime someone posts a valid question or problem certain idiots jump in and and right away comment 'you should not have bought that spa...." I am growing very tired of this....some people act like they are 5 year old kids.
  20. Looks very good... Maybe we can have a thread where more of us post are decks. Definitly might help give ideas. Or does this thread already exist and i have not seen it?
  21. You mean the Platinum Elite??? If so... We have had ours for about 1 month, its the 2nd spa we have owned. We use it pretty much every day...usually more then once a day. Family of 6. We like it alot. Jets have good power, seats seem comfortable. Stereo is nice. Waterfall seems like a waste. Cover remover is kinda flimsy but works much better then not having one. Max temp is 104, wish it could go hotter then that, but they says its a safety issue. Company has responded to both my emails very fast. Love the price. Have heard they cost alot to heat, but have not gotten a bill yet, so cannot respond to that yet.
  22. So..if its does not sanitize..i should be seeing soemthing..dirty water..or foul smell..or something right? Or, could be water still be really bad but not have any of those symptoms?
  23. Ok...so...if i am happy with the smell (or lack there off), and no one is getting any rashes/itchy stuff...i should be ok? THe PH level seems fine so far, maybe a little high, alk and calcium are all fine. Of course, the bromine test does not change color at all. (Am using test strips).
  24. We have the same tub (about 4 weeks now and love it) and also would like to increase the temp over 104. I wonder where the sensor is, maybe it could be changed/moved..i dunno. Anyone else have ideas for this? I emailed them about it, and got a response back on a few hours saying its some sort of safety thing that makes thems limit it to 104. Sadly, they did not give me a work around (yet!).
  25. What would these pathogens do to us? What should i look out for?? ------------------------- On another note, we went away for the weekend to a hotel. Most of my family got a rash from the tub. Wife and two kids anyway. Think the chlorine was really high.
