  1. [quote name='Biz' date='Dec 4 2008, 01:10 PM My question though still is, if we had purchased a $10,000 Hot spring tub, how much lower would our electric bills be. Afterall, our tub cost us only $3,000.00. I guess my question is always this. Why does everyone compare a 3k spa to a 10K spa. Many of the Major brands sold thru local dealers have models in the 3-6K range today. Those spas come delivered with a warranty, service, installation etc. I feel all of these spas are of a higher quality and offer so much more than the lower end brands. Why does everyone feel the need to compare the lowest price to the highest price spa. There are so many models inbetween that have a huge quality difference between them. I honestly feel a customer that buys a spa from a mass merchant for 3-5.5 K could have found a better quality spa in the same price range from a local dealer. Does it just make them feel better about there decision that they need to compare there purchase to the highest end spa available? If You buy a Yugo and You are happy with that, than good for you. But to say you bought a 10,000 car because your only other choice was a Rolls for 400K is crazy. There are many good choices for around the same cost or slightly more. I also see the same thing when people buy a 6 or 8 year old spa. They compare it to a new spa of a higher quality. That spa most likely sold for half what they are actually comparing it to and it was new at the time..
  2. Although done in a satire version, My post is the most honest, helpful and relevant response to this thread. It was also done without profanity.
  3. Oh buy the way, this is the same design that many sports fans have spent time in healing there bodys after major games. If you want to be a big slugger you could never possibly get there without the equipment to repair those tired joints after a game. I know there were famous people in this tub, which is why it is my Babe.. How is that..
  4. Let me first start off by saying I am sorry for answering this thread, but I just had to.. For those of you that monitor the temperature between your inner walls of your house and the outside... For Those of You that have found there is a temperature difference in the glove compartment than the actual cabin of your car.... For those of you that have found the time to inspect chocolate after hours on the slopes, depending if it was stored in an outside pocket or an inside pocket in the snow suit.... For those of you that now have owned a spa for three months and are considered an expert by the guy in the mirror.... For those of you that monitor the temp in a tire that has been driven in the winter and compare it to the temp in the summer only to calculate the swelling and resistance difference on the wheel therefore effecting gas mileage.... Minny To Mickey... Honey, can you just buy us a hot tub so we can spend some quality time together?
  5. This is only my interpretation but it goes back to what I was saying above about the leads. They aren't going to show these spas on their website anymore than they'll indicate on their main site that they even have dealers. Their primary goal is to promote the main website spas and go directly to people's homes to trick them into buying their crazy priced spas. Only after they shoot a blank will they send the lead to their dealer to sell these secondary spas shown on their secondary site. They don't initially want people to see the dealers spa line until after they had the first crack. In other words, they want to play both sides. How could a real dealer put up with knowing he only gets the scraps. I called Thermospas for pricing. The dealer price for a Spartaspa basic 7x7 2 pump 50 jets is around $8000.00 With their 130 plus Better Business Bureau reports, and 5 different hidden pro-rated warranties, I'm surpised people still by them. In my area it's the rednecks up north and down south of Grand Rapids, MI who buys, and where Thermospas thrive. I don't understand how the GWEEDO Andy Tournas wins any industry awards. What awards... Other than awards given by maufacturers to there dealers for sales and service performance, show me one award in this industry or so called star rating that is not paid for.. Thats just the way it is..
  6. May I be the first to give a draft for the Ad to sell this gem. There is so much about buying used spas that I feel this may be fitting. Ad: My heart is broken as I have to list My baby. This spa has given Us years of pleasure. You know you always wanted a spa and now you have the chance to own one for thousands less than the major brands! This spa was custom built in a Paul Newman Eye blue shell, which makes the water simply shine like crystal. The chrome bead seperates the shell from the quality cedar cabinet, that with a simple wash and stain will look as good as new. We had a spa guru look at the spa which is why the panel is off and he told us he had not seen a spa of this quality still around for years.. Why worry about digital panels when this spa has the reliable air control relays and only one air control for the spa to put your mind at ease. 110 service is all you need as we believe in plug and play. Our pill capsule filter system works great and the two small slits in the entry port of the filtration has been designed to keep all the large particles out. All three jets are still in this tub and if you position your body just right this can almost feel like you are in your own custom bathtub. We still have the cover and even after all these years of use it is just like new. We dont use the cover much as the cattle in the yard have taken to having a drink in this thing now and then. If you try to replace this unit today it would cost you 9K to get it from a dealer. Come on over, you can see this filled and watch the family and the farm animals enjoy this true Gem. We hate to see her go, but as you see this is a great unit with all the features like the major brands. It has a heater, a drain, a cabinet, PVC modern plumbing, and electrical hook up. Why spend 9K from your local dealer, 3995 and we can talk about delivery if nessessary. God bless you and help us find Paul baby blue a new Home..
  7. Go to your local lanscaping supply place. I am sure they can show you all the options that you have. Yes the interlocking Blocks can hold back well when installed correctly and have good drainage. Like I said, 10" is really not a big deal and will take you very little time to install.
  8. That was the whole reason I posted that photo, You are only going up 10" look how high up some of those walls are and the tons of material they hold back. No worries mate, there are stones made for these walls, they work well.10" is not a big deal..
  9. Most of the time we are cautious. when it gets real bad and the ice builds up I have a sump pump that I drop in the spa and use the 104 water to thaw out the deck and steps. It works great and we refresh our spa with a foot or so of fresh water.
  10. sorry, I posted my answer and photo on the other thread you started. I was addressing the slope issue..
  11. There are many ways to Build a small retaining wall for spa placement. There are also a few different good spa pads out there that I like better than concrete. You dont see them under the spa, frost is not an issue, and its easy to move the spa to a different location if you ever decide to.
  12. I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your new swim spa. I think the answer to your issues is obvious. You need to contact the dealer and ask them to resolve your issues. I think if you spent 20+k on a unit it is not to much to ask them to get it running right for you or simply take it back. I dont think you are helping your case any by delaying this approach with your dealer. Every customer deserves a product that works, even if they spend 3K. I wish you the best of luck, but dont delay, contact your dealer..
  13. yes check the large fuse, also the part number for a 2000-01 Altamar Filter is 6540-490.
  14. It is new. I have no clue how he still has an '07. What is a fair price on an '08? I think a fair price is your last offer from someone to sell you one for less than your quoted price for an 07.
  15. The website does not attempt to hide their name. It mentions ThermoSpas on the front page even. Sparta series is just another line of spas and hot tubs by ThermoSpas, in the same way that they have a Genesis series, Designer series, and a Fitness series. If it was just another series as you say, why dont they mention it at all on there main website where they have the Genesis, Designer and fitness series. In fact I could not find one mention of the Sparta series on Thermospas.com.
  16. Yes I understand it is always powered up, But how you set the start time for a filter cycle is to shut off the power once at the time you would like a cycle to begin and then turn it back on. 6 minutes after that becomes the start time for cycle 1 and cycle 2 starts 12 hours later. You can adjust the duration of those cycles to your liking. I dont believe it is better to have the pump run 24 hours instead of 8. I also think it will cost more possible double to have the pump run an addl 16 hours per day. I hope this helps.
  17. I think when you are dealing with shallow spas, pretty much every seat is in a way a lounger. To me if you sit in a seat and have to have your legs straight in front of you due to the depth, its kind of like a lounger, in most cases at least the seat back seem to not be on quite so much of an angle..
  18. If it was my spa I would not circulate the pump 24/7. Do you use your spa at about the same time every day? If so, here is one way you can set your spa. You can adjust the filter cycles for duration. Most normal home use I like 2 -4 hour cycles. The first cycle will start up 6 minutes after you power up your spa and then 12 hours after. If you use your spa say at around 7 pm in the evening, set the cycle to start 4 hours before that. Put the spa in economy mode. In that mode the heat will only come on during a filter cycle, or when you touch a jet button. Buy putting the filter cycle prior to you using your spa it will check the temp and heat if nessessary. It will only check the temp twice a day instead of coming on multiple times during the day. Check your manual on how to program these features,,
  19. I am sure your local Hot Springs dealer could help you out with parts and filter choice. I have just never got used to this idea of washing filters in my dishwasher. I have seen way to many filters over the years and know what goes into them. No matter what anyone tells me, there is no way I am putting my spa filters in my dishwater. Something about toe juice in with my wine glasses grosses me out. I am sure you can drink out of a toilet also and be safe, but it just the point..
  20. Not a Cal Spa expert. However, my hot tub started leaking from both the diverter valves. The covers for the valves on the top of the tub were removed with large Channellocks. Found a broken o-ring on one valve and a missing gasket on the cover of the other valve. The leaks appeared to come from the fittings, but closer examination showed they originated from the top of the tub. Thanks Wobbly, I'll pick-up a new O ring and give that a shot. I was able to get the diverter unscrewed and can see the piping from topside. The O ring does look worn, maybe that IS the problem. Stay tuned. Still looking for a plan B... Any other ideas anyone? Well, no luck on the new O ring. I spoke to a service tech and he wants $800 service call + $800/hr, + parts. Sounds like a bad hose. Think I have no choice at this time, will wait a day or two to see if anyone has other ideas. Open for suggestions... I thought I was in the wrong business, but now I know I can charge $800.00 for a service call and another $ 800 for every hour.. Damn, I have been loosing out..Ok honey, we can go to Hawaii next yaer...
  21. The website does not attempt to hide their name. It mentions ThermoSpas on the front page even. Sparta series is just another line of spas and hot tubs by ThermoSpas, in the same way that they have a Genesis series, Designer series, and a Fitness series. Thanks Jeff for the clarification. A leopard never changes its spots, My mama always told me that.
  22. Here is the new dealer line of spas from Thermo. At least on the website they try to hide there name... http://spartaspas.com/
  23. Just the fact that this thread was started shows there is a market. I have been selling robes for many years. We sell quite a few especially at this time of year. They make great christmas presents. Our best selling robe is a large thick terry robe that is one size fits all. Keep in mind you can sell a robe at any price point. The box stores you talk about do not have one thing that you can offer. Have the robes embroidered with the spa name on them. How many items does Harley sell to its customers after the bike? How many people have a ford, chevey, john deere, -hat, jacket, t-shirt etc. We also sell high end matching towels, they are also embroidered. I think if you have a good quality item and you display it well, there will be a customer.
  24. After years of using the sales pitch of a consumer buying direct, Thermospas is now looking for dealers. They have a new program where they are offering a "special" line of a few spas to dealers. There new pitch is anyone can be in the spa business. Just put the models in your store. Thermospas will stock inventory, deliver the spa for you, and service the tub in the future.. All you have to do is take the order and collect your commission. I believe they tried this out west a few years back and the program failed. They have a guy that was let go from LA spas heading up the program. I never thought Thermospas had the service end of business down. It will be interesting to see if anyone goes into bed with these people. They are still going to sell the way they currently do with there "premium" line. So a potential dealer still gets to compete with the factory. They also say they will generate the leads for you.. or for there other dept.
