  1. I just became aware of this product, but finally a cheap pool controller that can run pumps variable and 2 speed, heater, blower lights etc. Up to 4 items. This unit can also be wireless. This is $500 off a regular control system and with a Hayward the box itself has a control pad http://www.haywardnet.com/pdfs/ECommand4_SellSheet.pdf http://www.a1poolparts.com/-strse-2605/Hay...ated/Detail.bok
  2. I agree a 1hp will work just fine
  3. 1. any new pump is going to be more efficent than the old pump you have in water flow and electric. The pipe size dictates the gpm The 2 hp was used for the jets in the spa. 2. Pentair always seems to cost more than Hayward. The thing you want to look at is the AMP rating running at full speed. lower the Amps which lowers the watts used = lower electric bills. Pentair does sell pumps with E plus motor and variable speed pumps that will lower energy consumption. Look at the intelliflo pumps 3 Hayward used to mount switches on the back of the motor for changing speeds but since discontinued the practice and part. You would need to mount and wire a switch that could operate the pump in either speed. They all sell control systems that will control pool equipment
  4. you want something like these http://www.pumpwarehouse.com/hot-tub-shells.html
  5. this is common problem with some spa manufactures. If never run the spa without a filter you remove the door of wedge it down in the open position. Spa pumps can skim the water without it.
  6. No it is a two speed pump. Meaning if it is off you run it on low speed or switch it to high speed. Yes the low speed is the same as when it is heating or circulating
  7. I looked at my part supplier and there is not much Aquatemp product around. I know what you are looking for but it looks like there is no OEM replacement. See if Allied Innovations has anything in there Aquaset line. There are the only ones still making old style control panels. I didn't see any with LCD display
  8. Variable speed pump are the most effcient but also cost the most to buy. 2 Speed pumps are nice also but most do not come with a way to switch the speed from low to high I would get a 1 hp pump. The new one are better thus you can lower the HP. Hayward,Pentair both good pumps. I like the Hayward super pump myself. Pentair pumps can also be bought with a litttle better motor that helps in electric use. Look at Whisper Flo.
  9. If they were or are a clear or white color. They seem to get mushy and leave a residue that looks like putty.
  10. Must of them have a glowing look when they are operating. If it is over a year old its probably shot
  11. Will do...thanks for the tips spaguy. When I removed the heater on Saturday I noticed some sort of white-ish sealant used between where the heater-tube flanges connect to the plastic couplings/water hoses. Is this plumbers putty or what? No it is what happens to orings after they been in there a while. Best to replace them
  12. I don't know about the Katchakid nets, but as far as the Polaris ask if you can get a Polaris 380 or 3900. These run off there own pump and are a better cleaner the 360. The 360 uses a return line to the pool which uses the pool pump. There are a good cleaner but can be very fussy critters. You are good for the rest, Did they explain the different filters? De is the best, but personally I would use sand, least amount of maintenance to the filter. I find the cartridge filters a pain because they need to taken apart to clean and the cartridges need repalced every 5 yrs or so and are not cheap
  13. Prices seem good to me. I personally like Maax tubs. It doesn't hurt to look at them. They used to sold under the Coleman Name.
  14. I was hoping with those 10 inch, pneumatic tires, I wouldn't have to go the plywood route... but who knows. Thanks for the warning regarding the overhang. Ken The air tires won't work. They will sag to much with spa on the cart making it harded to push and pull. What landscape are going over? We use roller beds and plywood or if it as solid ground you can roll them on 1.5 inch pvc pipe
  15. Here is a link to look at a pack with no heater http://www.horizonparts.net/store/main.asp...tem=58-355-3272 This would run about $600.00 which is more than a Balboa VS500 pack with a new heater Here is a basic Balboa spa pack which incudes all new stuff http://www.cedartubsdirect.com/balboa-vs50...oller-p-23.html You would just need to redo the plumbing like the pictures from the other web site.
  16. Electronic places might have the relays you need, but if after you go through all that and its the IC Chip you still need a new board. I am trying to find a retailer that sells packs without a heater. I can't find any but My supplier has them but they only sells to pool ans spa stores. Since the heater has been replaced it is no sense to replace it. Most all new packs come with a heater and are about the same price, but replumbing will have to be done. He is a link with pictures on the left of a replacement job on a sundance spa. http://www.hottubworks.com/SpaParts/PacksDigital.php If you go with a new pack make sure it is a Balboa, HydroQuip , Gecko. These are 3 reliable ones stay away from any thing that says ACC. Your pump is Hayward most likely 120 volts 2 speed. If you mind replacing everything the Balboa Packs are can be configured for 120 or 240 volts
  17. Is there a switch mark timer and thermostat? Some of the older spas had a switch which would run the spa by the thermostat setting or only from the timer. It the timer is bad it could keep the pump running all the time. Ad for installing a digital pack it can be done with a little more info. Is the heater stainless piece connected to the spa pack or is it by itself with the plumbing? Also is it straight or curved. If memory serves me correct most sundance spas had the heater mounted away from the control box. Good thing Hydroquip makes a spa pack that tons of option for pump and heater placement. You will need to know the voltage coming to the spa. Voltage of the pump and how many speeds and quanity and if there is a blower installed.
  18. The 3 on your list all have good product start with them. Nordic,Marquis,Artic,Maax,Artesian,Jacuzzi, california Cooperage are some more. There should be models available in price range. Most mid range priced spa come with a 3 year warranty for part ans labor and 5 or more for structure and shell All spa sometime will need service. Another reason a local dealer with a strong tech support. Wet test the models you are interested in.
  19. I am still sure what you are trying to achieve. You can look into a couple of things to help. You can get a variable or two speed pump to lower operating costs to run longer for ozone. You can look into a chlorine generator which made from adding salt to the pool. They keep the pool sanitized. If you have a liner pool never ever use a floater in the pool. You will always need a sanitizer there no way a ozonator available can do it. i have never seen one sold with a mixing sump. Bioguard was making ones for pools they are not cheap and require exspensive replacement bulbs. My opinion and what you have researched is that output is not strong enough to do a effective job alone. There always stuff falling into a outdoor pool and chlorine can be made more stable. If you ever saw the tv shows on public drinking water and the ozone set they have it is amazing, but in the end they still add chlorine to the water.
  20. Since the the end of december Dream Maker which control pack from Balboa to Consumer Engineering. These new packs have loads of problems. 1st All were sent out with wrong size fuse needs a 20 amp 2nd If the fuse blows it make the topside control not function properly and spa does what ever it wants 3rd They very reluctant to fix these problems by reissuing a new Balboa Pack If you looking at them or just bought one. Take the front access panel off and look at the control box. If it a blue plastic box it is a CE Product if it a aluminum box it should a Balboa. Both are labeled with manufactures name.
  21. The ones made by DEL, Balboa and the rest are plenty strong for a spa. Adding a second will not do anything more since it will be mixed at the same point.
  22. you will need to replace the entire filter system
  23. You can ask the dealers if the offer a valet service to check on the tub. The other options are draining it ir let it run. Also what kind of power is there wired for a spa? Size wire and breaker? If you don't want to rewire the porch it is good to know. Most spa run on a 50 amps service with number 6 wire which would have red black white and a bare ground. Also some models can be ran on lower service but then you lose functions like heat when the jet pumps are running. If the porch just has breaker box with no wire for a tub to be connected then it does not matter what kind of hook the tub has. Manufactures should have the required info on there web sites. The reason I bring this up is some manufactures use 5 or 6 smaller wires and double breakers
  24. replacing the entire assembly is the easiest, but getting the element in and out is not bad. remove all sensors switched etc on the housing loosen the two bulkhead nuts slide old element out. when putting in the new element be careful not to bend the connection posts install new bulkhead nuts and sensors and your done Okay...sounds easy enough.....thanks for the feeback, PS588. So if I remove the pressure switch, what type of sealant should I use to reinstall? Also, does the temp sensor require any sealant? you can use teflon tape or teflon paste. the sensor should need anything because it should be mount to the housing not in the water
