I would like to start a pool service business. I have worked for a pool builder for 5 years doing plumbing and electrical. It just seems like pool service is a little more steady and I like the idea of having my own business. I plan on incorporating remodels down the road.

I am looking for various thoughts on purchasing a pool route from Springboard or similar pool route broker.

Has any body on the forum done this before? Pros? Cons?

Your feed back will be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you plan on doing involved remodels, and If you are in California, get a C-53 (Swimming pool contractor) lic. The knowledge you learn preparing for the test will help keep you out of (legal) trouble.

I've been considering leaving my job and opening a pool cleaning biz as well. sound like a good biz to be in and I like working outside. love being around water. where can one take this test? is this test a certification test?

Thanks

Its a type of contractor license, and you would need it to do certain types of work associated with swimming pool construction. If you are only going to do simple repairs to equipment, or a pool route, you don't need that much license.
