bigaw Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I had a repairman come out and replace the gas valve (under home warranty) but when he installed the new gas valve, the burner tray disintegrated. I can purchase the lower burner assembly for ~$300 from my local pool supply store. I am pretty good with my hands but I have no experience with natural gas (sealing pipes and such). Though most of the existing burner tray is non-existent, it appears fairly simple to install. Are there any difficulties with this installation project that I should outsource to a specialist? Thanks for your help. Quote

Thanks for your help. You have to make sure the gas is off as you will have to remount the gas valve on the new burner tray. Use gas rated pipe paste for all connection. make notes as were the wires go to the gas valve. they just slide in and get screwed to the floor of the heater. After all is done turn the gas on and test for leaks with a solution of water and dish soap. It will bubble were any leaks are Quote
quantumchromodynamics Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 How old is this heater? Quote
mrfixit Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 I would suggest to get a gas tech to repair it. DIY plumbing jobs are one thing, but gas should be left to a professional. Quote
