chuckfrito1
What damage can occur, if any, when PH goes unchecked, and likely stays at 8 or higher? Related to that, what happens with Alkalinity, (any associated damage?) if it too goes unchecked???

High PH compounded by high alkalinity will cause scaling of pipes and eventually stop circulation all together. Plus it will be uncomfortable on your skin. Also sanitizers become sluggish and won't do their job of sanitizing. Water will become green and cloudy.

High pH can also cause calcium to precipitate out of your water and onto your spa shell and inside your plumbing causing a sandpaper type of effect which extremely difficult to clean off except by reversing the process. Related to that, what happens with Alkalinity, (any associated damage?) if it too goes unchecked??? the real problem is that it wont stay high... most of everything going into the spa has a low ph.. chemicals, sanitizers and you. So this will cause the ph to drop and that will be corosive and cause damage to the shell and pumps. The first to go will be your pump seals and that will cause the pumps to leak.
