llamarche
Good afternoon! im a long time user of @waterbear’s 3-step bromine program but this upcoming fill will be my first time establishing a bromide bank without plain sodium bromide (I had some left over) and switching to shocking with dichlor instead of MPS. My (stupid) question has to do with testing sanitizer levels. If I am establishing a bromide bank over the course of a few weeks using a sodium bromide/dichlor product and bromine tablets, do I need to test for both bromine and chlorine during that time? I’m guessing there’s still residual chlorine in the water as the bromide level would be so low at the beginning, do I need to be concerned with that at all? Thanks! Because of the nature of testing bromine and chlorine with either DPD or OTO , if you are testing for bromine and it's in range then you also will have the correct level of chlorine. At first you will have a chlorine spa but as the bromide bank builds up (which can take several week) the spa will gradually convert into a bromine spa. Just assume it's bromine from the start and maintain adequate sanitizer.
