The unit is 10yrs old and has the Balboa Revoulution Spa pack. Researching parts for this pack, I found there hard to come by and what you do find, is costly. We live in the midwest and winters can get brutal, periods of time below zero. My biggest fear, is a component in the current balboa revolution pack failing and not being able to find parts or pay for one part, what a new Spa pack would cost. Also, is it even possible to re plumb in a new spa pack in the dead of winter? If it is, I guess I could make the switch when the current pack fails. If not possible to do in the dead of winter, I imagine changing to a new spa pack with more parts availability would be wise before winter? What's your guys thoughts? As far as whether to change out ahead of time, or when it fails - I'd do the research on finding a drop in replacement (or one as close as possible), get cost and availability. If you are in the States you probably have more options to get something in a day or two, but supply chain has been crazy the last few years so what is available now may not be in January when you need it. It's possible to replace in winter. Much easier if its a drop in, and the tub has up and downstream gate valves. If it fails at a relay they can be repaired fairly cheap. Personally I'm not spending $$ on anything until it breaks. If it dies in the middle of Winter DO Not Drain and get a small space heater inside on med/low and it won't freeze. This will buy you enough time to get it repaired or replaced.
