steelhead
Hello, Long time lurker...first time poster. I recently purchased my first hot tub, Aquarest 300 roto-molded. Now I realize the cost to operation which is a bit more then I expected. I'm looking for ways to conserve energy and I have a question about covering hot tubs. My top came with clips to secure the top but I have to drill into the hot tub to add the female part. I'd rather not if I don't have too but...Will I retain more heat if the cover it essentially strapped down compared to just laying the cover on top? Thanks Matt
CanadianSpaTech
Epoxy the clips onto the cabinet... Cover locks and not designed to pull the cover down for a better seal. They are only made to keep the cover locked when needed for safety and also to keep from blowing open on windy days.
ratchett
No that won't help. You'll get more energy efficiency by adding extra insulation to the tub if there is none between the cabinet and shell walls. Problem is that tub only has a front access panel (which is where electronics and pumps are located - you can't necessarily fill that area with extra insulation). Maybe if the bottom is open you can stuff extra insulation through there? I have a small 200gallon three seater which is very well insulated and my operating costs in the winter are less than $20 a month.
