Haley
We are in the middle of having a pool built. We just had our concrete decking poured. When I went to look at it I realized they forgot to put an expansion joint. What do I do now? I don’t want our brand new decking to crack! Is the only option to tear all of the decking out and start over?
Couch67
Do you mean the joint between the pool and the concrete deck (expansion joint) or do you mean the joints that are cut into the pool deck at certain intervals (control joint). How long ago did the concrete get placed? Control joints can be cut into the pad afterwards with a concrete saw. You do risk chipping along the edges, but an experienced contractor would be able to minimize this. Cutting an expansion joint after the fact could be tricky as you would have to cut through the entire depth of the slab, I would consult with the concrete contractor.
