Jonathan202096
I’ve been looking at a portable hot tub that offers a plug and play 110v option as well as the option to hardwire to a 220v 50 amp connection. Since it is a portable hot tub (more or less) would there be any issues wiring a nema 14-50 plug on it and plugging that into a 50 amp 14-50 socket. I have a few 50 amp plug ins around the house both in the garage and right next to the driveway (near the hot tub placement) for plugging in my electric vehicle. I know this isn’t the way it instructs as it wants you to run a hardwired connection to the breaker but since the outlet is hardwired to the breaker and the only one on the circuit would I have any issues wiring a nema14-50 plug to the hot tub? RDspaguy
I think you would still have to have the "disconnect" breaker mounted according to code, but there shouldn't be a problem using the plug. I have used a similar arrangement many times for temporary hookup at dealerships and repair shops, but never on an install.
