Best shock for salt gen bromine hot tube

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I have a bromine salt generator. I have lots of liquid chlorine on hand that I use to shock my pool. Can I shock my hot tub with liquid chlorine or do I have to buy dichlor?  I don’t know if dichlor is pure, would have to believe it has some inert ingredients— I’m trying to avoid calcium as my water is hard enough and can be a prob with the salt generator.  I also don’t want to use Potassium peroxymonosulfate. TIA

Also, for the dichlor, would the cya build up be a problem? Thx

You can use liquid, but it has a high ph you will have to counter so watch that ph. Dichlor is basically ph neutral, but does build up cya. It shouldn't take much so should not be an issue with as frequently as the water will be changed anyway. Do you have an ozone generator?

Thank you for your response.
Supposedly, I do.  The seller said I did.  I don’t see any instructions for it in the paperwork the seller gave me. I don’t know where it would be but I didn’t see any extra equipment near the salt cell, since we just had to clean it so now I’m a bit suspicious. I would expect it to be near the salt cell after the filtering.
IMO, we seem to have a low bromine burden and never had issues with the water but we also have a low bather load.
Bought it 2.5 years ago.

Ozone has nothing to do with your bromine generator, and water does not touch the ozonator, ozone is pulled into the water via a venturi valve.

Can you post a pic of your equipment?

Ozone acts as a continuous oxidizer, aka shock, and is doing much of the shocking for you. It is still a good idea to hit it with a bit of chemical oxidizer (chlorine or mps) now and then as ozone does not reach 100% of the water and has no residual. But it should not need much at all.
