Filters Disintegrating

Hi all-

We have been enjoying our jacuzzi j425 for over a year and a half now, using bromine and bleach. We have already replaced the filters once and are going to have to again here soon because they keep falling apart / color is wiping off of them. Sometimes I notice too much bleach in the tub, but mostly the chemicals are good. Is this a common problem? Should I be doing something different. The one filter (small one) is supposed to be replaced every 3-4 mos so I get that - it's been 6 and it's literally falling apart if you touch it. Thanks

Did you set up a bromide bank by adding a sodium bromide product? If not, then if you added bleach and hadn't used enough bromine to build some bromide, then the bleach would add chlorine that would remain as such and without any Cyanuric Acid (CYA) in the water it would be too strong. Also, be sure to add chemicals to the bulk spa water with the circulation running and do not add concentrated chemicals to any intake (skimmer or other input to the filter).

The sodium bromide does not evaporate with the water so you should only need to add more from splash-out/carry-out or if you have an ozonator since ozone reacts with bromine to produce some bromate.
