  1. I did originally set up a bromide bank. However, could it be that I need to add more water but I don't ever add more sodium bromide? If so, how much should I add? I add water at least once a week, and this water has been close to 6 mos.
  2. Hi all- We have been enjoying our jacuzzi j425 for over a year and a half now, using bromine and bleach. We have already replaced the filters once and are going to have to again here soon because they keep falling apart / color is wiping off of them. Sometimes I notice too much bleach in the tub, but mostly the chemicals are good. Is this a common problem? Should I be doing something different. The one filter (small one) is supposed to be replaced every 3-4 mos so I get that - it's been 6 and it's literally falling apart if you touch it. Thanks
  3. I was doing that all along and the ph does come back up quickly, but the whole process takes a long time. I was wondering if i could add more acid to lower ph below 7 because ta is so high to start
  4. Hey everyone. We have had fairly good luck the the tub so far except one thing. When i initially Fill it, i follow the lowering ta sticky, but I must be getting it wrong. It takes a very long time and I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I'm a little frustrated. Coming out of the hose, our water has a ta of around 300. So I'm supposed to calculate what it would take to lower ph to 7.0 and add half of that amount of dry acid. i do that and 30 mins later keep doing that until it's where I want. I am wondering if there is a better way. Would love some input. Thanks Haha so i just read a different post and I think I have it now!!
  5. Upon further review, i think it was a mix of lotions and stuff on people's skin because there was a decent amount of foaming mixed with the thing being new so maybe some glues or adhesives. We emptied and refilled again today, so far so good
  6. First of all, I would like to thank everyone on here who does an amazing job explaining this stuff for beginners like me - you guys are awesome! We just recently took delivery of our jacuzzi j-425 in early June, have been following 3 step bromine with few problems. Anyway, we have noticed for most of that time the water is almost completely opaque with jets on, but it goes back to clear after say 2 minutes without jets on. I do not know if this is normal, but it wasn't concerning me. Move to yesterday, and I am checking levels on the spa, and I notice two very small floaters (1/4" diameter maybe) almost spherical, and felt like a sticky rubber glue type thing. I have no Idea what this is or if it's related to the cloudy water with jets on or what?? P.S. When we took delivery, we spa flushed it filled it again, superchlorinated, then filled and balanced, so I would doubt it would be something because of it being a new spa. If anyone could give me some insight that would be sweet. Thanks
  7. Can't figure out how to turn audio system off on new jacuzzi 400 series.. Also does the display ever turn off? Thanks
  8. Just filled new spa with bromine for the first time following bromine for beginners -- after activating sodium bromide with the required bleach, the bromine went to about 30ppm..left it overnight without the cover next morning bromine was still a bit more than 25.. Getting impatient..I went into it at that level, and afterwards, it went down to about 18..still need to lower it to around ten, so I may do this again. Is this harmful to me?
  9. I asked this question as part of my other question in the general forum, but realized it is probably better asked in the water chemistry section - is there any reason I couldn't use spa system flush and then superchlorinate in the same water fill on my new tub? Just to clean out a new tub..would there be any adverse chemical reactions? This seems better than two water fills. Also, do you put filter back in when super chlorinating? Thanks
  10. Hi all, We are getting delivery of our new 2013 jacuzzi J-425 tomorrow. We are completely new to the game, but are fairly competent with the chemicals after days--weeks actually--of reading the hot tub water chemistry forum. Anyway the question is this - what do we have to do normally with a new spa besides filling it and balancing it for the first time? I know we should probably super chlorinate and empty before balancing. Do we have to remove filter before this? Also, when starting a new spa or changing a filter, what do we have to do to the filter before putting it in the spa, or can you just put it in and it's good? Also, would spa system flush be beneficial in addition to superchlorination? Could I run the spa system flush and then superchlorinate in one fill? Thanks - this forum is great!
  11. Ok great thank you! I think we will go the bromine route and have the feeder turned up pretty high as we will probably use it every day, and shock with MPS each week
  12. I have been researching bromine because i think we will do 3 step bromine in our new tub, but i have a question: If we purchase dbdmh tablets (leisure time) i understand they have no chlorine with them. Does this mean they are not effective without adding something like bleach everyday even just for background levels? We will be using sodium bromide to establish a reserve. Thanks
  13. Thank you chem geek! I will wait and see what the dealer gives us in regards to chemicals, and then we will go from there
  14. Hey everyone, we just purchased our jacuzzi j-425, and it will be here in 3 to 5 weeks. I've been reading on here to figure out all of the water chemistry stuff, which can be confusing. Anyway, I have a few questions: 1) When filling with water, do you heat it to temperature before adding chemicals, or add chemicals then heat? Also, does keeping it at a slightly lower temperature while not using say 95 instead of the 104 we'll use it at, affect chemicals, and if so, which do I plan for? 2) I think I am going to go with the dichlor bleach method, but was wondering, my dealer (the great escape for those in this area) is including some starter chemicals. Will those chemicals work to start out with, or will I need to start fresh for the d/b method? 3) Where is a good place to get good spa chemicals..whether it be online or a store? Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. Without this forum, I'd be lost
  15. Thanks everyone who responded ..we wet tested the J-470 to get a feeling of what the jacuzzi's would feel like in general. We very much liked the seats on it, and the dealer told us the corner seats are the same (with less legroom, anyway). We ordered this tub, and should have it in 3 to 5 weeks !! Now onto learning about water chemistry, which i've been reading a little on
