skiierx
I was recently given a 2004 hot Springs Vista hot tub from a friend. Once the tub was moved and the electrician hooked it up everything seemed to be working ok. Lately after 10-15 minutes of use the breakers on the disconnect would pop. So I pulled the side panel and the control box cover and noticed that 3-4 of the 5 electrical wires are burned and the cover was warm to the touch when I pulled the cover off. Today I had my electrician over and he pulled the board and noticed it was burnt on the back but said the board still looked ok. He told my wife that it appeared one of the motors was pulling too much current and that I should have the hot tub company come out and check it out. I emailed them the photos and they said it looks like I need a new board. I did a few searches and am not sure what the real problem is. Everything seemed to work just fine, the water temperature was where I wanted it and all the jets worked. Anyone have an idea?
PreservedSwine
Whoever wired it ruined the circuit-board. The wires don't go where they're all currently attached. Those spots are for a small slotted screwdriver to bend each spring clamp- which will then hold the wire in the spot it should be- in the round hole BELOW where they're currently attached. No biggie- just order a new PCB. The new one is improved anyway. Part number 77119 As it's currently "wired," and I use that term loosley- the wires aren't actually attached to anything- they're simply resting against the terminals. Loose wires cannot carry much amperage- they'll over-heat and melt. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did before melting.
skiierx
Thank you very much! I am having the spa company and electrician come out the same day. Should be a good conversation.
