syncman
Left spa unused for about 2 years. Short cash for a new pump. Installed it today, but water leaking badly around jets. Covered with spray foam, so hard to tell which one. Maybe all? Is it possible to change gaskets from inside? If so, what tool could possibly open this? http://www.flickr.com/photos/58982425@N02/6094211188/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/58982425@N02/6093673619/
ChaiSTi
That's a waterway poly jet. You can purchase a jet wrench to remove the wall fitting to replace the gasket. Part number to the wrench is 218-1770A.
syncman
Ordered the tool, and removed 6 jets level with the water after leaking stopped. Has to be one of those 6. Problem is they are TIGHT with silicone, and tool is becoming "rounded" and less effective. 4 were so tight I had to put a steel bar thru the slots on the back of the tool to loosen them. Is there a better way to use the tool, so it doesn't get damaged? Now that I am going back with new gaskets, should I silicone the threads and a "little" on the surfaces of the gaskets? Is there a better product than silicone that wont glue them down so tight, but still seal, in case I need to do this again? I am a confirmed pessimist. Someone has recommended no gasket, but 3M marine sealer, and tighten down, but not all the way, till it squashes out evenly, then clean up. I have cleaned out the threads, and the jets seem to go back easily enough. Another problem is the internal parts are tight too. Am using an adjustable "pump pliers" that opens fairly wide, but still not wide enough to get a grip. The tools "teeth" grip, but handles are too wide to grab. Is there an easier way to remove these? The "scalloped" edge provides very little area to grip. http://www.flickr.com/photos/58982425@N02/6109871861/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/58982425@N02/6109871801/
ChaiSTi
I think Spa Parts Plus has a metal jet wrench, part number WRW5203. I'm not 100% but it looks like it is designed for the Waterway's wall fitting. Instead of silicon, you could try Teflon tape on the thread but I'm not sure how it'll hold up. I would still apply a little silicon on the gasket. As for removing the jets, you could try a strap wrench. May be easier to grip and won't damage the jets with teeth marks
Spa_Guru
The problem with teflon tape is that it puts more force on the female threads and you can crack a jet housing, stick with silicon.
