Kahn
Ok, who else is tired of getting reemed on chemical prices? Lets share the knowledge of where else these common chemicals are used / sold that we put in our pools. Calcium Chloride (calcium hardness increaser) = Common sidewalk deicer. 50lb bags for under $20 Soda Ash, (Calcium Carbonate) Several places online about $1 / lb as opposed to $3-5 lb. Muriatic acid (Hydrochloric acid) Ace hardware, generally half price of the pool suppliers per gallon. Algicide - any place that sells Koi fish, read the labeled, same stuff and again generally it's HALF PRICE. If you know something add it on, like many of you I'm tired of getting reemed on chemical costs!
waterbear
Your forgot alkalinity increaser, which is just common baking soda and liquid chlorine, which is the same as unscented chlorine laundry bleach (but not quite as concentrated in some case--in some cases it is exactly the same concentration!) Water enhancers such as Supreme, Endore, Optimum, etc. They are just borax or a mixture of borax and boric acid. and let's not forget pool salt at about 10-15 bucks a bag. Just use water softener solar salt or pellets.....this is what the vast majority of SWG manufacturers recommend (or did before all the 'special' pool salts hit the market. be careful with algaecides, most of the ones safe for fish are copper based and copper causes green hair and stains pools. A well run pool has no need for algaecide anyway! Anyway, this is old news and has been discussed on this forum and several other pool forums in depth in the past....search is your friend!
