Need Advice On A Agp Purchase

Recommended Posts

I just gave in to my son who has been persuading me to buy a ABG pool since he was 6. He's 8 years old now and knows how to swim so I thought I'd consider the purchase. I've done some research and read on this forum and it appears like it's btwn the following three:

18' round:

Sharkline Emerald Series Escalade Round Above Ground Pool

Esther Williams Pool

Dough Boy Pool

Please advise which one should I go with and the differences in prices.

I'm new to this site and live in NJ. Also, when would be the best time to make the order and have it installed for the one you think I should choose so that I can enjoy it when it starts to warm up in June? Kindly advise. Thanks, Mario :)

The Doughboy pool would be the best pool to purchase. They have been around for 62 years and make a great product. I would consider shopping for a Doughboy and if deciding to purchase one go to www.pooltown.net call the 1-800 number we can ship all over the U.S.

I've heard good things about all three of the above pools. I own an esther williams and I am thrilled. I wnated a high quality pool that would last for many years.

the best advice I can offer is to talk to your local dealers and give them a chance to present thier products and then maybe we can hash out the sales pitches from fact here?

Are you going to install the pool yourself or have it done proffesionaly?

Are you on a budget? The higher end round pools can run 5-7K, while the lower end pools (namco) start at 1 k.

What are you expectations? something to have for many years that will be a feature of the yard and landscape, or a pool that the kids can enjoy, but once they're older, more likely the pool will be taken down?

Pools are pretty simple items.

Consider: quality of the liner, side wall, upright supports and top rail. FIltration is pretty much industry standard with heywood being the 10,000 lb gorrilla. (with quality products).

Don't foget that: Pumps, filters, ladders, hoses, and intakes & Return fittings can usually be extra in a pool package.

Round pools are typically your best bang for the buck. Oval shaped can get pretty expsensive to install. Square pools are typically a no-no as the corners can be significant poits of failure.

I personally didn't care for the AGP that offered a "deep end". This is extra money, and I thouht kinda of a gimmick. you really shouldn't be diving into the pool, and I've found that a pool that has a consistent depth to more enjoyable...kids can play in it, there's no "Deep sections" to worry about.

If you are planning on having the pool installed by the dealer, and want it in by end of June, I'd think you'd want to buy now and get on his install lists (at least that's how it works in New England. There's a limited pool season, and once the ground is thawed, and it's not raining, install schedules are TIGHT. I'm sure in FL or Arizona it's different. B)

And now that I am done with my posts. I realized it's all for naught.....

DARNIT! I hate when an OLD Post gets brought to the top...more than likely because it was spammed. Here I spent 10 mintues typing my thoughts out to try and help this person, only to find it's a year old.

Arrrrgh.

Hey, Trigger, I appreciate it--even though it's now 4 years after the original post. : )
