Errrr. Help.

One of our dearest friends is coming for dinner tonight and a dip in the spa...thing is?

He's got a really nasty, resistant to every treatment he has tried, toenail fungus.

I love him dearly, but I'm kinda skeeved out about the jets blasting toenail fungus throughout the spa.

Yes, yes I know lots of stuff is going to be introduced into our spa with letting guests use it...but but....

Somebody make me feel better about this??

Will a proberly chemicaled spa keep the fungi away?

I am not sure I can say anything that would make you feel better. A resistant fungus in a warm body of water. Turn down the thermostat leave off the cover and say it is broken. Iam not an expert so don't put to much weight behind my opinion. The sound of ot skeeves me a little.

I might go one step further and drain the spa, saying it's in the middle of being repaired. :D:D:D:D:D:D

Seriously, call your local health department and ask them. They should be able to give you an educated answer.

Go to the main breaker panel in your house, turn off all power to your house, then remove the cover and side panel from spa, tell your frend that you had a major electrical problem and the electric company came and turned off your power until youca get it inspected.

This should work unless your friend is an electrican.

If he is then you need to get two bottles of Jack Daniels, get him drunk, throw hot water on him and say its time to go home because he has been in the tub to long and you do not want him to get sick.

What ever you do don't let him take of his shoes or you may end up burning down your house and bulldozing you land to get rid of what ever it is he has.

At the least you could add about 30 tablespoons of chlorine just before he arrives the chemical smell should keep him out of the tub, if not only let him in the tub you and your family stay out until he is dead and then call 911.

Not related to the hot tub directly, but next time he brings it up, since he has tried everything, ask him if he should just get the toe nail removed. No more fungal problem.

This is the most ridiculous post I have ever read - Someone with toe nail fungus should be the least of your worries – No I don’t have toe nail fungus but you sound over the top obsessive compulsive -- Do some simple googling and you will find toe nail fungus is not contagious – Did you ever sleep in a hotel – How do you know they changed the sheets – Maybe the person that stayed before you had crabs – Ever use a public restroom – lots of nasties there – Good gosh people, lighten up and enjoy your hot tub ---

:lol::lol:

You do some simple Googling sport!

Damp, warm environments are the number one cause of the spread/breeding of nail fungi, not to mention other water borne pathogens like psuedomonas.

I'm thinking you are just a little sensitive there.....now fess up, are your nailbeds yellow and crusty?

We're here to help!

Foot Fungus Spreads Among Families

Study Confirms Common Assumption: and Athlete's Foot Spread Within Close Quarters

Sept. 29, 2006 -- Moms and football coaches had it right all along. A new study confirms that foot infections like athlete's foot and toenail fungus do spread from person to person among families and probably others sharing close quarters.

Although it has been commonly thought that athlete's foot and toenail fungus spread from person to person, researchers say it's the first time they've been able to provide evidence for it.

HAHAHAHA - I assume that your not properly sanitizing your tub because there is no way fungus can

survive that environment -- But I digress -- I wonder though, do you check your female friends for

yeast infections before they enter your tub?

I have nail fungus in one of my big toes since I was in high school (played hockey in hs and college) and I am 34 now. Every house I have ever lived in had a hot tub and I shared it with tons of people and I never passed it to any one. BY the way- Removing the nail only works 50% of the time, I know because I've had mine removed 3 times. It's really not a big deal.

I would LOVE to find some hard proof that his resistant toenail fungus will not survive that environment.

Bring it on, crusty! :D

Oh ****. Thanks a lot!!! Another thing to stress about!!

snort.

For some reason I can picture you snorting when you laugh -- How would you know if someone who had a yeast infection entered your tub? Or say head lice, or scabies or impetigo? Those are all highly contagious skin conditions  -- But I am sure if you put 15 or 20 TBS of dichlor in your tub before your guests enter then you should have enough sanitizer to kill those nasty buggers or at least give your guests severe skin burns -- but hey, it's better then the alternative.

Or the ever frightful LAS - Leaky a$$ syndrome :P

Not to mention the amount of sweat people leave behind in the water. Just because you're in water doesn't mean you are not sweating, its hot water after all. I read somewhere that its like 1 cup per person per hour! Not really infectious but still pretty gross!

Heh.

Delicious.

I called the dealer. They said the Ozonator should kill off most bacteria and fungus, then shock it after...and good luck.

GOOD LUCK??

I found this in my travels on a Q/A site

Q. Why can't I use swimming pool chemicals in my hot tub?

A. A hot tub is dramatically different from a swimming pool because you are working with water that is both heated and also aerated. The ratios of people are also quite different. For example, four people in a hot tub is equivalent to 300 people in an average size pool. The heated water and higher bather load ratio can cause organic contaminants not found in swimming pools. Because of this, the chemical make-up of swimming pool chemicals is usually quite different from that of hot tub chemicals.

300 people. Allrighty then!

Boy! I'll bet you guys would hate coming over to our house to soak. We religiously take showers before using our outdoor tub and insist that our guests do the same.

Mmm. same here.

Yep, so far,( a little over a month) in our tub, it has only been our family, save for one night where the kids each had a friend sleeping over and I made them shower first too.

Our neighbors who let us haul the tub through their backyard and into ours (we had to take down a section of fence and uproot a bush of theirs) are anxiously waiting for an invite.....then there is fungus boy :D

Cue old movinon to have a spaz attack because we are clean freaks....no wait, ignorant OCD suffering clean freaks! :P
